Oil Or Latex With Floetrol For Hobby Project

Im making some MDF stands to display some hobby stuff and I was going to roll them. Simple satin finish in a dark color, likely black.

What do you guys think would be better for durability (wipe downs) and smooth finish with a roller? Oil like BM Satin Impervo or a latex with floetrol?
Im looking for maximum smoothness and imperfection coverage (its mdf)

any 2 cents to throw in ? I was going to use the oil, but after hearing about the floetrol..kinda leaned toward that.

The latex with floetrol would be the easiest in terms of application and clean-up. Use a small nap roller, like 1\4 inch

With an oil based enamel you are going to get a much more durable finish. I also like the flow out and leveling properties of higher quality oils.

So it comes down to what you are going to put in the cabinet. Are the items going to be changed out all the time or put there and left? If it's the latter should have no trouble with using a latex.

What kind of paint are you planning on using?

I like oil myself (love the Impervo), but the waterborne enamels today are pretty good

I'd even take it one step further.. instead of a nap roller, use a styrophome (spelled wrong) or synthedic roller nap.. a nap roller w/ hairs will leave even a slight texture to your project... and remember to get TRUE color, you must prime w/ a grey primer.. and the hot blacks of this year are ebony black and piano black. you will see them on everything from electronics to cell phones.... I just did garage doors that color and they looked great.

thanks for the advice all.
it sounds like i cant go wrong with either.
its really not going to get any movement or wear and tear so I suppose latex with floetrol is going to be my best bet.

ill use the styrofoam roller idea and see how that works.

If you do decide to go with oil, there is a product called Penetrol, I think from the same company that makes Flotrol to thin the oil-based paint out.
I use it a lot it hot weather so the paint doesn't get too thick, too quick.
