New Base & Shoe Over New Wood Floor
Hey guys, need some advise please.
I am painting new construction. White trim. The Architect for the project mandates that I spray all trim, doors, casing, crown, base and shoe. Question is how do i spray the base and shoe with the wood floors and door jambs already installed. Taping the floor off usually is not clean. paint always finds its way under the tape. Anyone have any suggestions please. the general contractor advises me that spraying all trim is mandatory. |

Re: New Base & Shoe Over New Wood Floor
Sometimes you can get a 2" blue tape to fit under the shoe just a hair. It will prevent any visible overspray if you can. Then put a 9 or 12" paper and tape over that with your masker. Then you can cover the rest with plastic and/or drop clothes. If not, I would convince this person that you have to brush the baseboard. It's not very noticeable to brush just the base. We do it all the time.

Re: New Base & Shoe Over New Wood Floor
I prefer to mask off wood floors and have the shoe and all trim installed prior to doing any trim painting. This is how you can have the best quality finish for new construction. If you press the tape down carefully, you may have a little paint get through if the tape lifts at an edge, but not much.

Re: New Base & Shoe Over New Wood Floor
I would use blue tape at the shoe and use a 5 in 1 to press the tape edge, then I would take my masker with 9" paper and go over the blue tape, then cover that with red rosin paper with 2" masking tape over the rest of the floors. then set sprayer up on a good drop.

Re: New Base & Shoe Over New Wood Floor
Thanks guys,
Think I'm going to take your advise and use 2" blue tape under or up to the shoe. Then press down tight with the 5 in-one knife. got a go |

I think you get the best results finishing after installed, puttied & caulked. |
