I am hispanic and really grateful for website such as this and also the value information that most of you come to network.

I could stand back and listen to your resentful, slashing remarks but that woukd just make me of a passive and dull character.

HISPANIC CONSTRUCTION WORKERS should be respected just because they have that right. Just as you have the right to live.

With all respect to you I think most people on this forum have no problem with Americans making a living that includes Americans of all races and back rounds, if your legal then you have a right to earn a living any way of your choosing!

A lot of good people in the trades have lost work to illegals taking jobs away and that includes all types of illegals, Hispanics, eastern Europeans, so on!

Ahh, don't take so much offense, your either american or not... legal or not. It's a HUGE joke that to steal any contract you buy a black van and drive real slow through new developments... when you see people jumping off the roofs and diving through windows, thats the contractor you hit up! Seriously man, i'm Irish.. mainly... Norse secondly... go check out history and see how beat up we were... don't see me getting all mad. If you are a legal AMERICAN... power to ya bruther.

Re: Names

I'm from (central america)Hispanic/Italian decent but I'm American first and for most since I was born here. All in all I don't get offended to the immigrant comments even though all of my aunts/uncles and my parents were immigrants. There is nothing wrong with being an immigrant. What impacts people in the various trades is the illegal ones and the ones that avoid paying taxes(which can also be legal citizens). I only like to offer quality for whatever job I do. I don't like to lose business to someone who isn't following the basic principals and proper codes of conduct. So don't take it personal its just a reality that we all have to deal with.

Hudson Value Painting or Hudson Valley Painting are good to me.

i will agree with jonesy..yes you have to provide quality since referrals are the mainstay of my business but you also have to sell yourself and make the customer feel comfortable with you as an individual. i called in 3 painter to see what the going rate in the area was..2 came in and breezed thru the house barely grunted handed me the price and ran out the door..the 3rd guy chatted and was very personal and even sat down and talked to me for a while. he was more expensive but i would have hired him in a second...i am a woman and i would have felt comfortable with him in my house...to woman that is big, real big!!

Ummm... I'm assuming this was meant towards me for using the El Cheapo / El Grande example. How is that racial, resentful or slashing? Does that mean that "Yo queiro Taco Bell" is also? I see Nachos El Grande on many ethnic food menus. The "El Cheapo" was just a play on words to be the opposite of "El Grande".

I have a mostly German and Irish heritage. I don't get mad at the word "Sauerkraut". I'm not a Sour Kraut... I'm rather friendly and some of the ladies even say I'm sweet. I'm not going around asking stores and restaurants to quit selling "sauerkraut" as it's disparaging to my German heritage. And those little bitty "Irish" potatoes... what is that connotation all about? Are they trying to say "Irish" men have smaller "potatoes" then other men? I, personally, walk around with a full sack of swinging "potatoes" all of the time so I don't think stores and restaurants should sell "Irish" potatoes any more as it's disparaging to my "Irish" manhood.

My point is that the FIRST thing every immigrant should learn is the FIRST amendment... the FREEDOM OF SPEECH. If they want to take that away from AMERICAN'S, then they should leave this GREAT country an go back to where they came from. The immigrants who come to this country, from repressive countries, to celebrate our freedoms are more than welcome in my book. My ancestors were all immigrants as well.... the difference is that they came through Ellis Island and registered to become AMERICAN CITIZENS and put forth the efforts to LEARN ENGLISH and become a part of AMERICAN SOCIETY... they never expected America to change for them... they changed to become AMERICANS!

OK... my little rant is over

Re: Names

During my recent experiences, I've worked right alongside hispanics. One on one, I get along well. People I've met are hardworking, honest and have just the right kind of macho/humor I like at work.

On the flip side, it pisses me off to no end when someone is in this country illegally and starts talking about their rights. They have no rights, they snuck in here illegally. They make money illegally and then send the money out of this country, hurting this economy even more.

What pisses me off even more are the low life bottom feeding scum americans who hire them. They put me in a position to learn another language, like it's my fault no one speaks english. And they put me in direct competition against basic production labor.

Not predjudiced against the race but will definately speak up about taking jobs from americans and giving them to illegals.

Even though most replies here have been reasonable, there is the other side to this and it's going to be a big issue during the elections. I don't know how it is in the south, but to me it seems like the caucasian male is the one everybody wants to take down.

And what is the general attitude towards the U.S. in Mexico? Does Mexico like us? Hell No. How would I be treated in mexico if I went there with no money? like ****, that's how.
