Name 1 Thing The General Public Says....

Ok...we are all 'service' people in here, constantly talking to the public. What's that 1 thing that people never fail to ask?.....

I'm on the phone yesterday with At&t, and I mention to the lady I own a painting business, shoot the breeze a bit and....here goes.......

"do you paint inside or outside?"....

Never fails- they all ask me

I have ran into painters who don't paint outside and I have met painters who don't paint inside, I guess it's their choice. I do more inside work then outside, I think it's because there are so many Student Painters out there. and you can't forget the Cut Throats.

Re: Name 1 Thing The General Public Says....

I stopped at the grocery store once on my way home in full painter duds, reasonble amounts of paint on them and some asked me where the frozen fish sticks were. I said I do not know and she made some comment implying that I should know. I replied "If I worked here then I might know."
I think she felt a little dumb at that point.

The ONE question that I get, always asked, and is very ironic is....

Standing around in all whites... "Hey, you a painter?"

No I just like looking like one.....

Or for grins-n-giggles, tell them its your Hallowen costume for this year and you're trying it out for size. Everyone always wanted to be a painter for trick-or-treat, right??!!

Upon packing up for the 1st of a 2 or more day job, I have had a few customers ask if I am going to cover the fence panels so they don't get wet...

In her defense, i think thats a good question. Theres plenty of people who do one or the other (myself included)

My favorite is while im staining the outside of a deck railing people will point to the inside of the railing and ask (are you gonna stain that?)

Yup....I seem to get the annoying "you missed a spot" too much, but every person that says it to me does it like they were the first one to think of it!! Then they giggle feverishly thinking they made a funny.

Yeah, real funny
Over the years I developed a solution for that one
I have found that a single non-lethal shot from a small caliber firearm, tends to help that "joke" (at least for me) and stop the inevitable giggling (from the other person)
I prefer the foot as it's usually more stationary than a hand or arm, and not too close to anything important

When doing exterior work in condo complexes with the teachers and summer help, you can be carrying a buck of paint, ladder, and brush and the condo residents still will ask you what are you doing.

Re: Name 1 Thing The General Public Says....

If I had a nickel for everytime I ran into someone after work and they asked me "did you get any paint on the building?" I wouldn't have to work anymore. Not that I'm a slob or anything, but paint clothes are just rags waiting to happen.

I get the inside/outside question alot too. I think its because back in the day (whenever that was) there used to be more of a seperation between the two.
