Has anyone used this, if so how close has it been for you? I've priced three jobs with it, and it has been very close.

I believe it can be a good starting point. I know some on here said they would not use it, but why not "USE" it?
Imagine what it can do to cripple or atleast injure the classified painters in every local newspaper in America. How would a painter be able to come into a house and quote $75 for ceiling, walls and trim when the homeonwer who does their research sees a more true and honest quote from this bot estimator?
Homeowners are not stupid, they are just ignorant to what we know as contractors just like I am ignorant to the job they perform daily.
IMO anything that a homeowner can get in their hands that breaks off the trunk slamming hacks like a stick gets my Vote.

From that board:
"An uneducated customer will most of the time want a lower price, and with a printout of what this website quotes their living room at, it is more of a battle to overcome."
Let the website do it for that price then.

Hey Guys and Gals, Like ProwallGuy said, there is a thread at Paint Talk that has the same subject, but is somewhat more detailed in discussion, and IMHO would be interesting to folks that look.
Happy painting, Paul.

If your getting a bid too low on mypaintbid you must have made an error.
It is based on 50.00 hour rate + material and overhead.
If you are bidding over 50.00 man hour and getting the work , you can probably sell ice to an eskimo too. The guys at mypaintbid also have a tool that is designed for the contractor(for a modest fee), you can input your own rate for calculations when bidding residential projects It would be a wise decision to contact them and inquire about this. Tell them Smitty sent ya!

paint bid reply
I placed a few of my last jobs, and paint bid was a little low for all of them. It was pretty accurate.

Don,
I invented the web-site and glad to hear you used it three times with success. Quick Estimator, what you see @ the site today was designed for consumers to get a budget, inform & educate themselves and then get a quote from a contractor. Pro Estimator will be availbale in April 08. A friend of mine told me about this site yesterday and it looks like a great place for paint professionals to find out more.
Regards,
TG

Mr.Mgolibt, Is the info stated here by mrpaintguy correct? Maybe you could enlighten us as to the inner workings of the calculations?
Regards, Paul.

I did three rooms. One bedroom, one two story foyer, and a large great room. The great room came up $490, I charged $550. The Foyer came up $1400, I charged $1100. The bedroom was dead nuts.
I would use it again as a guide.
