Moved To NEw Jersey.

I just moved to New Jersey and started my own company here. I have work many years in MA. My question is; what is the rate going in New Jersey for a new construction home. What is the rate for a repaint job? Example: One room, with about 346 sf. I have to paint the walls, ceiling, trims, and one window. What is the flat, sf, and hourly rate for a room this large?Prep and material I could add. Any help is welcoming. Thank you.

Re: Moved To NEw Jersey.

The first bit of "help" is:

Are you a registered Home Improvement Contractor as required by the State of New Jersey?

Be careful not to give an estimate without being registered. And unless you are driving around to Newark and Trenton to pick up/hand deliver papers and deal with people face to face it takes more than a week to get registered. Also be careful with your website, technically you are breaking the law by advertising without the HIC number. I am not a fan of the Act, or some of its requirements, but we have no choice.

As soon as you get your number listed, they'll be calling you.

Re: Moved To NEw Jersey.

Why would any licensed, legal contractor give any advise to you when you are not legally allowed to work in NJ? They would just be taking work away from themselves and giving it to an illegal worker. Plus no respectable builder will give you the light of day if you can not produce ins. and a HIC number with your estimate.

I am not a painter, and I am not from your area so you are not hurting me directly, but I am just wondering.

I appears as though you have shown up to the game a few Marbles short. When you have gathered all that is needed for the game, shown an ability to play, given something BEFORE have asked if you could take, then I assure you that you will be more than Welcome to shoot!

The Guys here are rather tough on Process and Legitimacy. At this point, you do not qualify as a Legal Contractor so do not expect much.

Dat jus be da way day be.

This is NOT to say that you should not stick around!

Re: Moved To NEw Jersey.

I had plenty to say. I also would like to say this is not a forum about pricing. Every contractor must set their own price. I am fairly certain the vast majority of the members do not believe there is a "going rate" for any job anywhere.

That is EXACTLY to focus and "Mission" of this Forum. But NEVER for DIYers. Until you have shown your Professional Credentials through interaction, how dose one know that you are not a Home Owner "Fishing"? It happens DAILY! It just takes a bit of time to be "Accepted" as a Professional.

Re: Moved To NEw Jersey.

dude,
you're not going to get any help from the NJ natives. everyone i ever met from New Jersey was an A-Hole anyway,

Try getting what you got back home, if they jump all over it, raise your price. If they put you out on your ear, you are too high.

Trial and error ya know.

try to get a feel for the areas you're trying to work in $$$$ and try to come up with a rate, that's what I would do

Re: Moved To NEw Jersey.

Celtic!!! Iam in the process of building my website........and the contacts and names are all wrong there. I have not advertise yet. I am messing around. When is ready, I will show it to you. I am a new contractor. I don't have a lot experience in the field. My friend and I, who has more than 17 years of experience in the field, are trying to build a legit business. I have a lots of friends who works in construction and they are helping me. I am trying to get as much knowledge as I can in NJ. I doin't want to go into a house and bid 200 per room or less. I am the salesman and he is the worker. I am learning to do wallcovering, which it is alot of fun too.

Re: Moved To NEw Jersey.

On a side note...what is liquid siding? You have it listed as a service, I have never heard of it.

How can you compare a taxi driver and a painting contractor? How can you compare a baseball player and a painter?

Unless you are doing a specific cookie cutter development, every job should have a different and unique price.

Believe it or not EoTW, that is a great example of why your question cannot be answered.

The HIGHEST paid player in 2007 was Alex Rodriguez $ 26,000,000
The LOWEST paid player in 2007 was some nobody at $200,000 [League minimum]

Does that mean the average player received $13,100,000?
Of course not.

So what is the average?
Add up all the salaries and do the math.
Not so easy, eh?
