good luck,

poplar is more of a paint grade than stain grade wood. it is very hard and does not take stain well.

your best bet is to play around with one side of one door till you got it down and then install that particular side in an inconspicuous spot, like the inside of a closet door-side.

I think he means melamine. It's a plastic coating that cabinets are made out of. They take particle board and coat it with a plastic. Comes in different colors. Most of the time cabinets are made out of the white.

I know what it is. I just do not think that the OP, having misspelled it, knows the nature of the beast!

Why not just order some thermofoil doors to match?

assuming it's paint grade, and not a fake wood look, go with a high build oil or a shellac primer, spray the doors flat. Apply at least two coats, sanding in between coats with 150 grit or so. spray two or more coats of appropriate sheen enamel, typically high gloss. see other threads for painting cabinet details.

Well at least you used a great quality top coat. It should last at least until you get paid.
