Magnetic signage

Hi, looking into the magnetic signage you can get, has anyone used these before and if so where did you get them,I realise there are plenty on the web but thought some of you guys would know the good from the bad in terms of quality of sign and the price relating to it.

You can buy 8x10 magnet sheets...I did that once about 8 years ago...I printed some text on it, it rained, the ink ran....I put some new printed signs on my door, after a few days the magnetizm wore off, or maybe just too much dust got between the sign and the door, but one flew off, and the other slid down the door.

There is a place in the Denver area called FastSigns that does a higher quality magnetic sign. They also do permanent decals that (6 years ago) cost about $350 for 2 doors, including the cost of layout, and that stuff doesn't wash away.

About a year ago, I had the permanent decal type put on my truck. I got the back window and both doors for about $300. Included layout and installation. About 5 months ago I had to have the door ones removed because my truck got hit and needed painting. they were still in perfect shape and the one on the back window is still there and holding up great.

I do not know where you are located, but there should be Sign Makers in your area that can make you Magetics.
Here in California those guys are All Over The Place, try your Local Phone Book.

Make sure they use .030" magnets or it is Not worth it.

If You order Magnetic Signs, I suggest also going to your local Metal Supply and buying 2 pieces of Galvanized sheet cut to about 1" larger on x and y than your signs so you have a Safe and Secure way to store them if you need it.
At least that is what I do. My signs lasted me a couple years because I try and take good care of them.

Good Luck with your Search.

I like the vinyl lettering better than any magnetics. Just had a trailer done on Monday and it costs $750. Vans are about $450. Well worth the investment. Stick on magnets look like a temporary company in my eyes.

Nothing says part-timer better than magnetic signs.

One good thing about the all-mags is that if you do any subcontracting, they're easily removed.
I forgot to take mine off once and the GC reamed me a new one for showing up on the job site with my company logo on my truck.
Other then that,if you keep the backs clean, they don't blow off.
Be careful in colder climates because they may become brittle and rip easily.

I prefer nicely done magnets,1..I trade my trucks in almost yearly
2...when im to busy and not looking for work, which is often,I can pull them off and not have to tell HO's I am to busy, plus I can hide easier from neighbors in the devlopements I work in..nothing worse then trying to paint and the neighbor comes by asking questions prices colors bla bla bla.Worse if they know my company and see the truck with signs, mags come off and I have just another clean white van

I love my magnetic signs. I was able to design them myself, they look neat and colorful, they really attract attention, and I can take them off when I am driving out to visit my family or if I'm just... going out. My truck is all I have, so I don't like my job to define me. If I am always driving a work truck then I feel weird. If I were a guy, perhaps I would not mind so much. But, I'm not

I paid less than $200.00 for mine and I got 3 jobsite signs as well. It was a heck of a deal and the quality is good. Got them at a place called Same Day Signs. As for storage, I just stick them to the refrigerator.

at the moment I'm trying to build up a client list and at times I do work for another contractor so the ability to put them on and take off as required is really very helpful, thanks again for your valued comments

I agree that seems to be the attitude about magnets here in Chicago...

I bought a couple of truck signs and was real happy with price and service from aainstantsign.com
I got their name on this board a while back. What's good is you design on-line he sends you a price, arrive a few days later. Not to crazy about magnetic's but my HOA won't allow trucks with signage, I just take em off at night.

Aren't your vans/trucks Ins. commercially? In NJ if you have a commercial vehicle you are required to have lettering on the vehicle. We bought a van, called the place to get lettering done, said they were backed up for a week- got a ticket the next day. I think the cop was bored because he said the reason he pulled the van over was to check the temp. plate. Bogus in my eyes.
Please let me know if these laws are in effect in your neck of the woods

... When I was living/working in Jerzey was stopped a few times, never got a ticket though... PBA Card helps big time!
Down here in Georgia no laws about signage. The "cops" recently started to pull over Mexicans though! No joke they put up road blocks or stand in the road and pull every Mexican over illegal and otherwise.
Never fly in NY/NJ! but welcomed anyway..

I use mags on my personal van because;

They can be easily removed and allow you to gain access to communities with 'commercial vehical' restrictions.

Commercial vehicals are frowned upon in my neighborhood.

In some areas, signage means 'a small fortune inside' if your'e a crackhead.
