Lowe's, Super Walmart Bids ???

I am starting to get back into retail stores, I have done Starbucks, panera, lucky brand jeans, Buckles, Vic Secrets, and i have several contractors now sending me the Big Stores. I have a Lowes and a rehab- remodel add on Super Walmart to bid. I did bid a Sweetbay but that was easy and under 40k sq ft. The lowes is 117,000 sq new constr. total with garden center 158,000. And the Super walmart is 204,570 sq ft. The Walmart will need all ext pressure washing, and int/ext paint, do i factor in all the ceiling white seperate and the floor paint seperate ??? Anyone out there know what im talking about ??? I do have access to plans but i have looked on line and it sucks and im not paying for paper plans !!! I have paper blue prints up the so i would like some input if possible to get the bid written up !!!

Re: Lowe's, Super Walmart Bids ???

I'm not sure what you mean by factoring the ceilings and floor in separate.

If your talking different pricing than the walls you need to figure them separately yes.

I'm not a painter I just play one on the net, but I do know the ceiling paint will be different than the floor paint not to mention floor prep and a scissors lift.

I can tell you it would be a mistake to just throw your Vic Secret SF price at it and pray. In the end it may be the same but you need to do the up front work to be sure.

Good Luck

There's a couple of guys on here who have done Home Depots etc., they will be able to answer your question.

Yes you do need to factor in those seperate, the ceiling is probably an unfinished ceiling with the structural steel showing. You'll have to figure on a dryfall product for that area. The floor you'll have to figure either an epoxy or concrete stain, what ever they choose. Both of these require different materials and therefore different pricing. It sounds like you could have twenty grand just in material...

Re: Lowe's, Super Walmart Bids ???

How the hell did you estimate your other work?? by the floor sq ft?

If you really want the job and the GC is local you can always go to there office and take off the plans there.

We did a couple of Home Blows when they first came around, we took off everything that needed to be painted, ceilings, walls, floors just like any other building .

Have you done structural ceilings, are you going to rent a lift?

If you know what's good for you, you better take into consideration painting dust walls also. Walmart implemented the painting of all dust walls during construction. In addition, all dust walls must now go from floor to ceiling deck.

The profit margins are gonna be crazy low to the awarded bidders on the Wal-Marts.

Re: Lowe's, Super Walmart Bids ???

how do you even go about doing jobs that large. when they painted one of the lowes near me they had about 30 guys painting. They had 4 guys at a time on just the lifts and 3 sets of lifts. One controling the lift, one sparying, one back rolling i think you guys call it and one guy who made sure they didnt run over anyone as they was doing this in normal open hours. they were in and out of that place in under a week all done inside and out. they looked like they was set up to go from store to store.

The last walmart we painted was specd out Sonoborne products, maybe theyve changed, but we had about 2 miles of gasline on the roof to paint safety yellow which was convieniently hidden in the pipefitters section of the spec book...get as much info prior to placing a bid.

Re: Lowe's, Super Walmart Bids ???

I was on a crew that did a factory interior in July, we had to cover everything, blow the dust down, paint it, & cleanup. 30 guys, 10 days, 3 shifts, 7,000 gallons dryfall. The building was 2 1/2 blocks longs 50' from floor to lights, 10' more of steel truss above. 8 - 80' lifts

I've done a new Lowe's also, once the walls were up & roof on it got painted before lights were installed and before the floor was poured. All terrain lifts.

I've never done a Wal-Mart but I have heard from other contractors in town that they are a nightmare to work for. Again this is just what I've heard from other contractors and suppliers.
