Looking To Relocate...

This could be a real long story, but I will keep it simple. I have been doing this for about 16yrs my dad has been at it 55yrs we are in business together. I live in Michigan, and the economy sucks. I have over 50yrs of repeat customers and referrals, but I am throwing in the towel with this cheap place. I now have to compete with the manufacturing lay-offs who are now pro $5.00per hr painters, and most of the people around here only care about price. I know how to sell, but it has gotten out of controll. Seven or so years ago we had a net profit of $1,000 to $3,000 per day. I haven't grossed $3,000 yet this year. Like the cliche around here says, " the last one to leave Michigan, please turn the lights out when you go" If anyone is looking to have someone on their team who has his own tools (several airless sprayers, HVLP sprayers, everything to run a business) I am looking to get out of here.

thanks for your input.

Heh, the housing slump from last year did most of that. I'd say ell ya cept, I don't know enough about ya.... joewho i'd give a job to in a heartbeat. Why not do what I did? Toss a dart at the map and... go, travel, get bored and do it again.... 7 states later and 50 companies go by... you'll find there are roughly 50 ways to do anything and, well... it's time to pick a city to live.

I started with my dad when I was still in highschool, and I have made him a crap load of money. I am already talking to him about this, but I have a family to take care of. He is about ready for retirement..so it should be a fairly easy transaction.

Sounds like you are in eastern MI either in or around Detroit? or farther up the road. Anyway SW Michigan is booming with rich Chicago money. I am in the Chicago area and we go to Sw Michigan for the weekend and relax all the time. Maybe you should consider going there and seeing what's going on. 1 million $ condos on the lake? sounds like in few yrs there will be a lot of re paints in that area. Just a thought, good luck to you.

Re: Looking To Relocate...

Look on www.city-data.com, easy to compare state statistics and some good forums. I was looking into relocating recently and one thing that suprised me was the difference in license requirements. I live in Utah where it is fairly difficult to get licensed, one requirement is showing W2's for two years! In Idaho you pay a small fee to state and thats it. Here in the southwest you have to compete with the illegal immigrants. The weather is great though! Good luck

You come to CT and I'd consider teaming up with you. I'm not kidding. There's plenty of work up here, it's just a matter of beating the low ballers with a better presentation and better product...people aren't only concerned with price up here, they want quality

Changing my story, we now have a fourth moving into the area... Sunday paper tells about another huge billion dollar company rolling in right around the corner... besides Turner, Parish and Moore.... you prolly wanna think about the gold coast, we are about to explode.
