A Legit Employee

I have noticed a rather quick way to discover if a potential employee wants a real job or just "another job". Simply ask them to fill out an application. As soon as they hear that the bad ones usually just disappear.

While I am at it I would like people to tell me what their favorite interview questions are.

My favorite is "what do you want to do with your life?"

WHy are you looking for a job?

What are the best interview questions?

Re: A Legit Employee

I used to interview at a table in the bar, and ask if they wanted anything ... ON ME.

The Cokes got hired.

I wondered about the 1 beer.

But the guy who had 3 screwdrivers and the shakes was a fun interview.

Tell them there is a drug test and a credit check for insurance purposes. That should weed out the slackers.

Who is the best boss you worked for, and why?
Who is the worst boss you worked for and why?
If they sit and do nothing but rip on their previous employer, I'd be cautious.

Re: A Legit Employee

Some came from another thread here, but we ask the following

What did you like and dislike most about your last/present job?

What are you looking for in a company you will work for?
Other than pay of course, what is really important?

What is your biggest accomplishment (any field)

What are your biggest assets? Why should we hire you?

What is your biggest character flaw? Why should we not hire you?

Why do you want to work with us?

How far would you like to go in this company?

What do you expect to be doing in 5 years?

Describe a situation when you were told to do something you didn’t agree with.
What did you do?

What is your ability as a painter? Are you neat, clean, fast, slow etc.

Are you able to climb ladders?

Can you handle work like prepping, sanding, scraping etc?

How do you see yourself as part of a team?
What work atmosphere do you like to work under.

Re: A Legit Employee

I think ModernStyle has it, just say drug test.
You do need to know.
How long they have been painting,
What type of painting they have done, brush and roller only?
Can they use a spray gun.
Climb a ladder. How high will they go? (24' is it for me these days, must be getting old...lol)
Can you Be on time, push that point.
A good one in my aera, due to DWI's, Can you drive,
Due own a vehicle. Because our work is local to... (Pick a city or town a few miles away.)
If your a big contractor and I take it George Z is you can ask his type of questions. If not, I wouldn't.
As we know alot of painters go from one company to the next. It's like painters change jobs every year.
It's part of the trade. You do get the guys that will stay with you now and then. But unless your one of the
top paying companies in your aera, the help will come and go.

Re: A Legit Employee

I had to take an test for the job I have now. He said it didn't affect if you get hired it's just a knowledge test. I will see if I can get a copy from him. I missed one out of 20, didn't know what to thin laquer with I think......is it alcohol? Not sure. But the questions were just basic painting stuff.....what was a holiday, whats a laniard for, spread rate, etc.

Pretty funny for a real painter, and even funnier when we hear the idiots that get hired asking about the TEST!

I think it was shelac? if that is how it's spelled. It was some kind of clear finish I have never used, and you used alcohol I believe to thin it.

Dam I can't believe I said laquer....lol..........had a few beers last night.
