Re: Lead Tester

I actually just saw a special report on those lead paint test kits and the lead toy test kits and basically the conclusion they came up with when sending known samples to various labs and also trying out the on the spot color change type the results were very poor. You would actually have a better chance of not hitting another car or person driving blindfolded at 60mph in NYC during rush hour than gettin an actual reliable result from any of those testers. And to make it even worse every single coat of paint or primer on top of the coat in question lowers the probability of getting acurate results like 20%

The whole lead paint thing can be expensive to deal with.If it's a job you've contracted and it's either rental property or there's a child under a certain age in the house, than, some states require a formal test before and after completion of the project.
Here you have to be certified to even touch the stuff.

So,if you think there is lead, the liability will rest on you.

But you probably already knew that.

An old painter might have a way to tell with a couple scratches through to the top coats.
