Re: Latest Countertop Refinish

Sorry all, yes all prices I mentioned are per sq. ft. $30 per sq. for very simple marbles and granites. It goes up from there. What's nice is the texture material I apply can replicate a chiseled edge too. I only wet sand if someone wants the honed look.

Re: Latest Countertop Refinish

I think you have much more prep and work in your tops with doing the concrete overlay. However, I'm not sure how I should be pricing mine. I am happy making 350 a day for a top. However, I'd like to make more I'm just kind of testing the waters right now. How much per square foot is a typical formica top? Maybe I should be charging around 15 per foot? That would have made that top around a thousand bucks. Cheaper than granite by a long shot. However, is that cheaper than nice formica? I want to keep it at a price that is sellable. Any opinions. Is it worth 1000-1500 bucks?

Re: Latest Countertop Refinish

Painting the countertop is cool and your results are good. You can buy the particle board top (which you are already painting over) for $150.00; or the same as your materials. I think you might be better off learning how to switch out counter tops.

Less chemical exposure

Same money or better

homeowner doesn't have to vacate

when you're done with install you don't have to fret about whether the temperature, ambient humidity, alignment of the stars will allow your countertop to be hard enough not to be destroyed when the ho moves back in after 24 hours and immediatly sets a warm pan on the counter top (just to see how it works)

upsell the homeowner to a kitchen repaint while your at it.

Couple years ago I worked on a remodel and home despot did the counter top a 3x8 run for 800$. Probably took the guy about four hours.

Re: Latest Countertop Refinish

except I don't think laminate looks as good as this. I think you could fool many people into thinking it is granite standing right next to it. I know the formica in my house was about 2500 dollars. It is nice stuff. Beveled edge. But I still don't think it looks as good as the refinished. I would have done the multistone but I hadn't started doing it. Just my two cents.

The prep is the same save for removing the sink. And, can you get more? I guess it depends on your location. Are you say,, in Chicago, or downstate? That may dictate how hard you have to develop the sales. Remember, when you offer customization and colors that increases your ability to charge more.

I am in central illinois. To you Chicagoians that is Southern Illinois!! Pricing in chicago is far higher than here. My brother has a house about the same size as mine in chicago. Mine cost 250,000 to build. His cost 580,000!!!! Your stuff looks great Dan! I think it could be a good business opp down here. Not many people do anything like it.

Look at the many different ones out there. Decide which you like and may be right for the clientele you have or would like to have. Then take a training course in some of these products which give you training, knowledge, and samples. Usually these courses will run from $250-$600. Or.....convince a friend to do it and spend the money. Then give him a 6 pack and trick him to teach you and get the technique for free.

I'll bring a few 12 packs next time I am your way and you give me the class. No drinking untill after the class is finished though.
