Interior Vs Exterior

Just a quick question adressed to the painters on this board working in colder climates (Northern States, Canada - I'm from Ontario): I'm wondering what proportion of you gross yearly earnings come from interior and what from exterior painting. For me, the ratio is about 1/3 exterior to 2/3 interior?

Re: Interior Vs Exterior

That's fascinating, George. I thought an established company such as yours would be doing about 50-50. I run a small, three-employee painting company out of Hamilton, Ontario, and have found my margins on exteriors to be significantly, and consistently higher than on interiors. The ironic thing is that I despise exterior painting, and so does my top painter - for mostly objective reasons (I am severely allergic to bee stings; he has severe allergy to pretty much anything that produces pollen). We'd all three of us much prefer to do exclusively interior work, but are finding it very difficult to make money 'on the inside'. Thanks for your reply.
