Insurance & Bonding

Just starting my own painting biz and would like to get any feedback on what type of insurance you would recomend. I do not have any employees yet, so workers comp. isn't in the picture yet. If possible, please give me an idea of what I may expect with costs for this insurance and bonding.

Best Regards,

Dave

Welcome Dave. Dave, you left out too much information in order for anyone to be of any help to you.

Re: Insurance & Bonding

Im in Ca. where insurance is probably as expensive as it gets. They base it on your payroll and/or annual sales. Im pretty low in both of those departments after 2 years. My bond cost just under $200 for 2 years and my liability is at $3100 per year.

Dave

Welcome man. Good to see a newbie. Now, do us all a favor since most of us have tackled this subject before. Go to that little "search" button above in the blue column. Search "insurance" or "bonding" and read through some of the many threads on the subject. This will be super fast and probably cover much more than this thread will turn into.

Good luck man

GET LIABILITY INS FIRST! About two bucks a day if you keep it under 150 grand a year in Chicago. Build it into your prices.

" Now do us all a favor?" How many subjects have we not tackled before?

Re: Insurance & Bonding

Please excuse the redundancy of my post and thanks for the heads-up on the search tool to find past information. I am in the Tampa Florida market and will be specializing in exterior painting; there is a lot of stucco that needs attention out here! I look forward in researching all of the topics and post in these web pages from seasoned professionals.

Thanks again,

Dave

Re: Insurance & Bonding

Welcome Dave !

(gee, I didn't get a "welcome" )

As stated go with the business liability first. BUT PLEASE consider WC.If you are doing interior only, I can dig that WC is less important, but think about doing ext by yourself. There's a lot of opportunity for "stuff" to happen.

BTW, the WW
(that's my wife, who has become known as the "Wonderful Wendy" on other forums ...... if you knew me, you'd know why she is known as that )
works for "the enemy" (insurance industry) and even she has had trouble with Liberty Mutual. DO NOT GET A POLICY WITH LIBERTY MUTUAL !!!! I did in the 70's and they SUCK OUT LOUD. (She works for One Beacon, so they gotta be the only reputable company )

We don't work to have accidents, and we all take precautions BUT, it can't hurt to protect your biggest investment - YOUR ABILITY TO WORK !!

(DAMN! I'm pontificating a lot lately - must be getting old)
