Get insurance starting at 2 story, spray (if you have a sprayer) and half a mil, 500k.... you will be covered for about anything.. as you branch out and get bigger jobs you can always raise it. Just make SURE they know and understand, it's just you...
Just don't do tooo cheap, 500k is really only 250k payout for accidents other than the place blowing up, read those documents... this is why builders want you to have mil plus for 150k spec homes.

General Liability- $5 million plus Worker's Compm Ins. Anything less than $5m will not allow you to enter any Commercial Jobs around here (NJ) Most houses that we work in/on are worth well over $1m to a house now that was just built for $15million. If we burn that baby down, I can promise that you will not hear from me again

I carry 1 Mil. in liability. With one of my first jobs, I was going to scrape old texture off a wall in an older home. The home owner is a realtor, and collected a large amount of antiques. She had not cleared the area that I was going to work in, so I proceded to remove a painting of some old American Indian dude, and an old iron table with a glass top. I moved them to an adjacent room. I proceded to scrape texture off the wall, and created a bit of dust. The home owner then asked if I could put plastic over the door to the room that I had moved the items to because her $3K painting was getting dust on it. Whoo I had no idea that that thing could be more than a few bucks. I decided then that I would require my customers to move any valuables from the areas that I would be working in. Later that week a few electricians showed up to start rewiring the house. The room that they were starting in had several antiques, so I warned them that the items there were quite valuable, and take care when moving them. Eventually all furniture was moved out. Just be real careful when dealing with other peoples belongings, it could cost you. Paul
