Impervo VS Pro Classic

I have been using frazee paint for years,
now reading through here I am hearing a lot about the 2 above and want to try one out on my next project,

Can you guys please let me know which one is best in the satin WB form for trim work.
Feel free to argue.

Re: Impervo VS Pro Classic

I know Frazee is dominant in the San Diego market

You should try Vista Paint Carefree product
their service is great as well

Though you can get a sort of Ford/Chevy thing going on...
Neither is best
Either is good
They are slightly different and you might have a preference for the attributes of one over the other, but that's a personal thing

Re: Impervo VS Pro Classic

I tried the Pro classic and it seems to be rather flat for a satin paint.

Re: Impervo VS Pro Classic

For my money, BM Satin Impervo is a good product, especially the oil-base 235-line. Nothing, and i mean nothing goes on more smoothly and levels quite like it. Plus, once it dries and is fully cured, it's virtually indestructable. It is pricey but you do get what you pay for. For best results, add a small amount of Penetrol (NOT thinner) and you will be amazed at the flow and glass-like finish you get.

Re: Impervo VS Pro Classic

Speaking of Vista, I have recently been using their Alkyd/Emulsion line of paint called Aqua Fusion. I was pretty happy with the results. Much better than my experiences with latex for trim. Their Carefree line was not my favorite. I prefer Dunn Edwards' Perma-Sheen (semi) or Perma-Gloss (high gloss) to the carefree (semi) stuff from Vista.

We use the proclassic. It dries hard and has good block resistance.

Re: Impervo VS Pro Classic

I've been using both products for several years and have been very happy with them.

PC has the best oil-like leveling qualities of the two, but it's a difficult product to use, and usually requires more time to apply properly. You need to know in advance the amount to apply, as too much will run/sag and too little won't cover. It also dries very quickly, so working somewhat fast is necessary, and any mistakes must be fixed within a few seconds or you're painting it again. It has coverage problems with light colors sometimes and might require 3 coats. It likes hardwood better than soft.

Impervo is fast and friendly. Unfortunately it's only available in satin. It's doesn't level quite as well as proclassic, but really only painters and purists can tell the difference. It doesn't have the sagging problem that proclassic has so you can put it on a bit heavier (= more speed). You need to really look at the surface to see the brush marks. For things like baseboards you probably won't see any difference from oil. The fact that it's satin helps with this.

I find myself using impervo more often than PC just because of the speed and cost advantage, though I always use PC or oil when I'm working for myself.

We have used both.

Why doesn't Impervo come in a semi-gloss?

Re: Impervo VS Pro Classic

I enjoy both, however I get better prices on ProClassic.

Since moving to the mid west I have found Kwal paints, and their Accupro kicks the crap out of ProClassic and Impervo.

No kidding.

I thinned out with Naptha (1 to 5 ratio), and was told to spray a 3 ft. section over and over until I reached 5 coats and then I flat out refused.
I was ordered to carry on and I cried about "sagging".
8 rapid coats later, still no sag!!!!

Beat that.
No don't, just know that I am converted.
Although I just specked out 10 gallons of ProClassic today (price issue again).
