Re: I Need To Talk To Someone!

sttryffe, I'm not sure it's the perfect formula, but it's worked for me for several years. My cost are 610.00 per day, so my profit is built into the price, and I generally bid one day more than I think it will take as additional profit.

George Z, no, that's myself, and two others.

Thanks again Don! I also have to thank George Z too for asking the question of how many painters are factored into that daily rate! (I take it you knew what I was thinking....didn't you George Z!!! lol! Thanks buddy!). Both of you have cleared up a couple of very important things for me! Thanks again!

I've got one more question....is there a method to how you could convert your daily rate into a square footage rate (floor or wall) if you had to???

I know there are contractors that swear by square footage...and then there are some that use the eyeball method....and of course the one's that know their numbers, measurements and all figures associated with the project.....I guess what I'm trying to figure out is a way that I can go from a daily rate to a square footage rate when needed...or just for comparison sake...since there are people who strictly want estimates with square footage! I apologize if I've taken over this thread! SORRY!!!!!

Again many thanks people!

God Bless!

it all boils down to knowing how long it take to paint something, then with that info you can convert it anyway you like. Keep a record of everything.

Yes, it's very simple. Just divide your daily rate by the number of sq. ft. you can do in a day. And don't forget to figure in your materials and profit.

Re: I Need To Talk To Someone!

Thanks Dave! And thank you Jack! That is quite simple! I really appreciate it! Now has anyone ever figured out generally what percentage do materials represent in a paint job?

God Bless!

12 to 15% on standard paint jobs. Of course it can go up or down depending on what your using

Hey Premierpainter!
Where did you get these figures? Is there a publication out there that I could read more about something like this? So are you saying if I use top of the line paint, the percentage will go up or will it go in the opposite direction?
Thanks for your time Premier!

Re: I Need To Talk To Someone!

17 long years tells me these numbers. In NJ, you have to break the materials out in the estimate due to taxes. We always give an estimated amount of materials in our estimates, unless the homeowner or builder give us a color list prior to the start. I look at labor and estimate materials at 12% and then settle the difference when all of the paint has been purchased- plus or minus. We add a percentage to all materials that we purchase.
