Ideally, if you have some of the paint on hand for the wall that Does Not get painted, you could use that to seal the tape down. Otherwise, I like the caulk idea.
If you don't have any touch up paint for that wall, you might think better of putting tape on there. Or using low tac tape. Chance of pulling some paint off with the tape.
Disclaimer: even though I like the caulk idea, I never have and probably never will use it. I'd rather freehand. But, if you don't want to freehand, caulk is the way to go.
