I have to use Home Cheapo or Lowes paint.
Im on a job where the owner has tons of credit at home cheapo and Lowes and insists that all the paint for his remodel is purchased at either. I've used behr and I hate it, so can you all recommend a good finish paint from either place. I havent used much junk, so I'm not too sure. Thanks

Have you tried telling them that because of the quality of the paint you will have to put on 4 coats so it will cost them more to use cheap paint?

So funny/true- trust me...I'm not looking forward to using this crap at all- I'm a "comfort-zone almost strickly sherwin guy"...I'd rather use promar 700 than use what they call their best!

Paint guy,
If you must use cheap paint go for Lowes Olympic Premium like $22 gal
I have used this for friends and other and it is nice paint for junk.
It is made by pittsburg pts and you might have to add an extra coat like Finley said, but just add into your quote for this--you may get luck and need only two coats.
I dont use it anymore since it is junk but if a customer seriously requests it i will use and still offer my 2 yr warranty for interior--not sure bout ext. since i never used it and prob dont ever
havnt tried A Traditions but that is made by Valspar so it could be good also-dont know

Just say no
Seriously
Tell them to buy a fridge or something
God that stuffs horrible
I guess you gotta do what you gotta do
Triple your labor charge-I'm not kidding-that's stuff's no AquaVelvet or Duration...it'll take longer, more coats, and still look like butt
Seriously, if a homeowner insists, I give them two bids, one with the paint included (good stuff), one with "Homeowner's Spec'd paint
The triple labor charge always out-ways the two coats w/good materials
...I think the last time the H/O wanted to spec the paint I bid it at 3.5X just to make sure

It actually is a decent paint with a good VOC rating, about the only one i'd go with from both stores and still give a warranty. Just did a townhome for a homeowners association that picked that paint, covered soild body stain in one coat really, did the second just to complete the contract. Expensive though, but it's nice and thick..I like that.

I HATE Behr paint. It doesnt cover, its so hard to apply it evenly and even if u try hard the finish still looks like crap. Their eggshell shines like semi-gloss... its 100% garbage paint. This is why I hate letting the customer buy the paint. You give a price for a normal paint job and they end up buying the cheapest paint and in the end you get into a fight when you try to ask for extra money. Its always best to supply the paint yourself so you know whats going on.

I have used American tradition for interior and it is pretty good paint. The Behr I would not use at all.Exterior wise American tradition makes a paint called Duramax that believe it or not is thicker and covers small cracks like caulk.Compares to Duration and a little bit cheaper.

Paint Guy,
We use BM paints. If homeowner wants us to use any other paint, we have it written in the contract 1 coat primer, 2 coats paint. I tell the HO we will use there paint but if it needs more coats there will be an additional cost and we will not warranty the paint. Had to start doing this as Behr paint s***s, no matter how many coats you use.

Lowes IMO has the best paint out....All the paints are one coat coverage except if you doing reds and the usually problem colors....Still 2 coats for duarbility.....Signature which is made by Valspar has some ceramic in the paint but not a ceramic paint...Def top of the line.....Bad part ...its expensive but if the customer is paying for it...def recommended....

I wonder if you can buy some his credit off him. Appears his biggest worry is getting rid of it. Anything you need at Home Depot? Buy a $1000 from him at an 80% exchange rate = $800. He got rid of some credit and you can go buy proper paint.

Depending on your state.
If a home owner buys the building materials or supplies he becomes the GC and all liability becomes his. IE he needs to provide insursance and WC. Just run that by him and that will change his outlook on the paint. Also I dont warranty any product I dont choose and apply myself.
Agian check your state laws to see if that applies to your area.
