How much paint?

My first kitchen cabinet job. There is 35 doors at 30"x 22" and 12 doors at 11"x 22" , 9 drawers at 15"x 6". Painting both side of doors and the face of all cabinets. Cabinets are from floor to ceiling. Using Ben moore melamine paint, 2 coats. Do I also need to prime? Or just sand with 220 grit. They say melamine paint doesn't need priming first over shiny cabinets. I figure 2 gallons would do the job! Is this about right?

when i have done cabinets i always take them off and scrub them down...haven't found a kitchen cabinet not filled will grime. used a brillo pad to clean them and then sanded them as well then primed.but i did them with latex and oil based paint. used the hot dog sponge rollers and they came out great.good luck.

take your door, drawer size multiply length by width by number of coats to get square footage, then determin how much a gal. will cover. Don't believe the manufactures sq. foot on label, almost always on the high side.
