How many painters? - Contractor Talk - Professional Construction and Remodeling Forum

Hi all . just curious do any of you know or have a good idea of how may painters or paint contractors there are in this country. I took a look at just S.W I have been told they average 300 contractors per store across the country and have 2000 stores = 600,000 . there must be maybe 2 million painters/contractors in the county , with all the other smaller paint stores.
Does anyone have a real estamate from a data bank that is close to acurate?

Now are we talking about real painters... or guys who have painting, along with 75 other trades on there truck?.......

Anyone can paint, so I'd guess 300 million.

People who get paid for painting-- 2 million is probably low. Again, anyone can paint.

Just as anyone can paint, almost anyone can open an SW account. They are in the business of selling paint, and an easy way to do that is to open accounts.
