How Long.....

How long does it take you to paint a 6/6 window with frame??? Prep/Prime and 2/coats....

I bid 1/2 hour for prep...

1/2 hour for primer coat
1/2 hour for first finish coat
1/2 hour for final coat....

In reality... it takes me about 1.5 +/- a few minutes....

Just wanted to see what the average was.... It took a painter that works for me 3 + hours to do this (one window)and I just think that is to long... he says that it should take 3 hours to paint a 6/6 window... I dont agree...

I bid unit cost with dificulty factors, how many coats... etc... and I use "MY" average speed to figure my costs... and I am more than fair...

I only hire experienced painters so we should be able to finish "close" to the same time...

anyways......

It would take me 2 hours 15 minutes, and everybody I work with knows I am the pokey painter. Well at least now I know I'm not the slowest, and that is compared to a painting pro...

New window? Run into an old one with 12 coats of old paint, possible lead and you're going to spend some real time there.

I guess that knowing if it is a new window would help. I only paint new ones that I install so, um, yeah......

3 hours max seems fair for a new window of that size, but that is really a max time. could be faster depending on location, amount of prep etc. as teetor said, really depends on the situation. i am always uncomfortable with "set in stone" times, unless the window in question is exactly like 50 others you have painted.

is the window interior or exterior? ladder work etc? if the window is interior, no ladders, easy access, minimal prep req, good tools, good paint then 2 hours seems about right.

2 hrs seems right. But do you have to set nails, scape off drywall mud ,cut the excess glue off the glass ?

Talking

It would probably take me at least four.
Complain that it's too hot/cold, have a cigarette or two, make sure no paint gets in my hair, check my makeup a few times, drink some tea or something, listen to the guys complain about their girlfriend and throw in a few smart a$$ comments...

I'd work faster, but when you don't get paid...

Maybe I'll start working for another painter this year.
Anyone in the Toledo area looking for help?
