Best to test a small area first. Spray a very light coat of laq sealer and allow to dry. Then a little heavier coat if all is well. Build it up gradually so you don't bit in to deep.

If you are using a latex based paint it will work. You need to get a sprayer that will do a good job atomizing the lacquer, I suggest a HVLP or an airless air assisted sprayer. the lacquer dries fast enough so you will not be able to apply it with a roller or brush without seeing all types of marks. You will need very good ventilation and will need to cover anything that you don't want to get overspray on. Did I mention you will need good ventilation? Airflow to remove the explosive fumes is mandatory. You could also use a water based lacquer, but I have no experience with them. You cannot get a good finish unless you put the proper amount on, usually around 4 mils wet is the magic number. You will most likely need to do two coats to get a glass smooth finish if this is what you are looking for. If not, one may suffice. As to pricing, you will get about 100-125 sq ft coverage per gallon, at about $26/gal. If you get a gun that has adequate output you will be able to do a 8 x 12 wall in 10 minutes, plus your prep time.

Good luck, be safe, wear a respirator.
