hooking up with contractors

We have never done work for building contractors. We never tried to work for them because I always hear about people not getting paid. I also hate the idea of getting paid nothing when complete and having to wait 90 day or 180 days. If one wants to get involved with a contractor how do you get connected with them? Write their company a letter?

Most painters have worked new construction when they were employed before going on their own. That gets you the experience to know who's who.

One way to get your foot in the door is to find HO's who are building or remodelling and hook up with their contractor.

I don't know of a magic bullet answer that will save you heartache and troubles. At your stage of the game, you will have to solicit contractors, maybe do something small, test the waters.
Come up with solid, legal contracts that a builder will actually sign.

Find contractors just getting into the business. heh. I found one once while sitting at the coffee shop.

Believe it or not, check your church. It's important to business to belong to a group, whether it's church, golf or any other group.
Ask other trades who is good and who isn't, but it's still no guarantee.
