Home Depot Is Now Painting???

This was all new to me I saw it on there sign at the store today. They steal a lot of the contracting work around here because there is a lot of shady contractors. Now they are going to steal the painting jobs from us

I have some insight on this.. they actually contracted the work out to a firm in Miami, they contacted me last year.. basically a sub thing, you get a store of your own... didn't appeal to me. You only compete with yourself brother, if YOU can't land it, YOU failed.

I think they've been doing this for a while. I talked with someone last year at Cheapo who told me I could work "for" them, but had to wear their shirts, not use my company name & use only their products.

I said, good thing you're not asking me to be your employee

I believe they have had that service in Chicago fo rsome time now. Not sure how its going since I do not go into there to get any paint. Once in awhile for a roll or tape, plastic and maybe a scraper.

LOL, this reminds me of a time a Pool and Spa and of yeah Billiards place called my dad. He set up recovered sold etc Pool Tables, they called him to tell him they were overloaded and would let him setup some of the tables they sold. Nice of them...... ......he asked what were they gonna let him do their tables for. They told him 200.00. That included him going to their shop, pick the table up and deliever it.

He said I appreciate the offer, but if yall have any tables you need setup I charge starting at 300.00 and that's if the tables are sitting in the room it's gonna be setup. Delievery is 150.00. You obviously have my number, gimmie a call!

Brush, they used to use a co. called OCTA out of OTown. That co. contacted me and the deal really bit, sucked, blew, really wasn't very good.

Re: Home Depot Is Now Painting???

I wish I could turn back time and I learned my lesson the hard way Last year I contracted with New Image Painting, they manage the painting for Home Depot. I thought the costs would be made recouped by the volume of jobs, I thought it would even out cash flow,Told I would be paid within 32 days for jobs. I thought I could have an steady flow of work and steady cash flow, commercial work 60-120 days thats a long time to wait for money I'm a small company. Fees deducted for HD jobs 24%. Had jobs completed and still haven't been paid, told there was a problem with HD acct. payable, this was nov dec. I told them I'm not doing any more work until I get paid. I've written this off as a loss and a hard learned lesson. The HD costumers thought this program would be cheap but it was not because I had to tack on 24% to cover HD and New Image fees. I'm concentrating on my own business full time and we're doing better than ever and I even increased my rates this year.I may write about this experince in more detail at a later date.

Re: Home Depot Is Now Painting???

I thought a test of an independant contractor was to work for different customers. No more than 90 % of your work is to be done for a single customer. If you are not an independant contractor, you cannot deduct your tools, vehicle, insuraance, supplies, phone and all the other stuff we normally consider normal costs of doing business.

There are other tests, such as control of the job, hiring and fireing, degress of quality, choice of suppliers.

In the commercial exhaust cleaning field, we sometimes refer to "Big Joe". Big Joe lines up hte job, determines the price, and subs out the job. Big Joe oftne demands a higher level of quality from subs than Big Joe's employees are able to produce. We say"remember, Big Joe is not your friend" Maybe we should add " Home Depot is not your friend"
