Re: Holiday Specials?

I was thinking the other day about this local furniture company in my area that has a going out of business forever sale......every 3 weeks. They have been in business for 40 years.

I wonder how it would sound for a construction company to have a "GOING OUTTA BUSINESS SALE".

Back on topic, no I haven't thought about discounting my work.

Re: Holiday Specials?

I offer a 10% winter discount for customers. I decided on that one back in the summer, it's on my answering machine. It's a good selling point and I'm only the 2nd painter in a 30 mile radius that offers anything like that. I dont offer anything for pre-booked work...I just call that pre-booked work. I also do something I call "referral compensation". That's self explanitory. As for holidays, most of the time (on bigger holidays) HO's dont even want you around....so I've never thought of that one. I work smaller holidays, as if they are normal work days.

Heh, no thats an age old marketing trick.. if you REALLY pay attention, the sign will read "GOING OUT FOR BUSINESS!"... meaning, they will try to get your business with lower prices, but they aren't going OUT of business...

I offer a free one hour colour consultation paid by me for one of the designers from the paint store. Cost me next to nothing, she tends to upsell the job, and is only good if they accept my estimate.

Re: Holiday Specials?

This is my first year so I have no referrals yet and sorts..

I just met with a local "coupon clipper" magazine and am getting my ad put in a Full Color small "12" pages, the ad is 1/6th of a page but its all I'll need.

My "coupons" will be 15% off for next springs job and $50 off and int job
It is coming out Nov. 19th so not many can get a coat in time for THankxG but until Xmas I plan on being booked

Headline for the ad is --"Get a fresh coat of paint on your walls for the holiday spirit"

My letters that I hand deliver also have this and I've been getting a good response

Re: Holiday Specials?

I have been doing a 4 for 3 free room deal for a lot of years due to slow winters up here in the northeast. I offer a free room if you paint three at regular prices. It usually gets me in the door and then it turns out we end up painting a hallway or a bathroom for free. Works good and is still profitable. (good only from Nov. 15 Thru Feb 28.)

Re: Holiday Specials?

I don't do any holiday specials. I don't really need too. I do a lot of interior repaints for people wanting to impress their friends and family over the holidays I guess with their bold color choices. I end up redoing some in the spring when they realize the dark green or dark red is not what they want all year round.

Re: Holiday Specials?

Retail Stores make more money during the holidays.
Should we not charge more for working these festive times?

Re: Holiday Specials?

George, the retail stores make more because of a sharp increase in volume. We could hold a "holiday special sale" and charge more so we have a really special holiday!

Re: Holiday Specials?

Honestly, I was thinking about offering a "winter discount" about four months ago because I didn't expect to be booked my first winter in business. But turns out..we are booked through December so as it stands now...no discounts.
