Hiring Tips

What questions have you found most help full when interrog... err I mean interviewing a potential new employee?

Have you had good luck hiring experienced helpers, or do you find they are too set in their ways?

Any tips would be appreciated.

I need to hire a painter soon and want to makes sure I get the right guy. I would like to hire someone who is already trained and can spray various coatings. I really do not want to hire newby, since last year I had to turn away all larger new construction work and had a hard time running my summer exterior crew and taking care of interior repaint customers. At that time, my year-round guy (who has another job now), was not very experienced yet and it meant that I needed to be in 3 places at once.

I will need someone who can be self-sufficient. I am hoping that I will be able to build a smaller, high end new construction crew in the future and hopefully if I find the right person that he will be the main person on that crew.

Re: Hiring Tips

Figure on going threw about 15 guys to find a good one imo.

I like to start with

do you smoke, yes o man that spot is filled, sorry lol, no move onto next question.

how old are you

are you married, show stability sometimes

how long been painting,

some names of other companys you have worked for

why did you leave them

how much are you looking to make

if you can work side by side with them for a couple of days, that is always good.

ask them question about application as well, what to use to condition oil paint, latex paint.

type of tips for certain applications

favorite brushes, and size for application.

also seems good painters know good painters.

guys behind the counter at paint stores sometimes know good painters sometimes
