Help Me Decide On A Sprayer?

Hey everyone,

I have a sprayer on my list of toys, and I keep finding new data on the Graco's

I need to practice spraying+++i've lined up my sisters, father-in-laws, and more+++just to practice to learn some tecnique

I will be using it first off for Repaints, int/ext. and poss. near future of New Resid. and small to med. Commercial
Can always buy another if nessesary

I have decided to go with a Graco to start and can always get rid of it at any time in the future.

++I would like to stay simple and have to stay under $800 or less

====The Magnum XR9 was my first pick
1) Very Inexpensive-since just starting and learnin
2) Has the "power-flush" system for quik cleanin
3) Contractor quality up to 500 gal/yr
parts may be hard to find for this one

====Now I have seen the Graco 390 and jumping up in price they have the GracoBucks to defere that price and get actuall Contractor Qual. for not much more++the only Prob is no Powerflush Clean

===Now I have Just found the Graco STX for $700 free shipn plus $150+ in GracoBucks, Heavy Duty 3 yr warrenty on defects and Lifetime on Pump and DriveT ! no Fast flush either

I am going insane reading all this info so I ask with kindness to please help me outta this circle and give me some strong pros and cons on these sprayers--Just remember in a yr or so I can always upgrade and use both i.e.-one for latex one for oil...or keep one set for primer one finish--you know

Please limit to Graco since that is what id like to get and have done all the research on.

Thanx in advance,
if ya got questions shoot,

Robert

Re: Help Me Decide On A Sprayer?

I havent personally owned a Titan 440 but I've heard a lot of really good things about them from both on here, from other painters in my area, and the paint stores. I was quoted around $700 for a 440. I've heard there very dependable and can handle relatively large jobs

Re: Help Me Decide On A Sprayer?

A lot of people around here own Titan's, and they all say they are really nice. All of my research says that they are great sprayers, probably top of the line.

Having said that I own a SprayTech EPX2155 and I love it.

I've only had it for a few months and run about 50 gallons through it. SprayTech customer service is really great.

Depending on the model you buy they send you a bunch of free tips, a repacking kit, or a sweatshirts, hat etc.

The manager of one of my local paint shop is a SprayTech/sprayer guru and in a few years can take care of any problems I may have with it.

I have a Hero 850 sel, I've had it about 2 years, no problems. However, if I bought one now I wouldn't have bought it due to the diaphram. But it does the job and does it right. a bit noisy too

Look into Spraytech... i'm not totally fond of them but, we recently bought a 1620, it was around 600? Except for the inlet ball getting stuck on trash it does a good job for the price.

Good Painter,
I love the Gracos too. I own the 695 and this thing won't quit. If I were you I'd buy the biggest best sprayer you can afford. Of the ones you listed I'd say the 395 is your best bet. I wouldn't worry too much about the fancy "options" like the power flush clean. They all take time to clean, if yours takes a few extra minutes, it really won't matter much.

Re: Help Me Decide On A Sprayer?

....Love my Graco's, use them until they get stolen. Right now, we have Ultra395, perfect for what we do. Great, solid system. I think it cost right around $800, plus I got around 10 free tips. I'd get a Pro sprayer from Benmoore or somewhere like that.....don't get a HD sprayer. Two different animals. It's like comparing a John Deere to a Home Depot John Deere. Get the Ultra, and go up in size depending on the heaviness of what you are shooting. I've had Spraytech.....I dunno, just preference that I like Graco. Never had Titan. A guy I disliked had one and it made me not want one

Re: Help Me Decide On A Sprayer?

I own a graco magnum xr7 and a magnum dx, I've prayed 500 to 1000 gallons out of my xr7 already... everything from oil exterior primer. To 60 gallons of stain last week. I bought the dx so I can spray ceilings and smaller stuff w/out luggin the big one thru customers houses. I even spray walls with the dx. I've never power flushed it yet. just have a spray box with a green scrubby and various toothbrushes for cleaning. I've never had a problem mechanicly with either sprayer... just a long thin screwdriver to
untick the ball every few months.Bought mime @ home cheapo ... but the problem is they just switched there line to titan... so parts will have to be bought from ebay. I'd suggest a swivel between your hose and gun... it helps alot. tips size goes like this.... latex.... prime walls and ceilings use .17.... finer cuts and stuff like trim .15 , there is also a dual orfis tip that is good for really fine stuff also a tip .13 for some thin stuff. If you have any questions I'd be happy to reply.

Re: Help Me Decide On A Sprayer?

I bought a new Titan 440i this year, it's lighter than the equivalent Graco and a bit less expensive. The only negative I'd have to say is the location of the pump filter. It’s on the bottom of the unit whereas the Graco is on top and easily accessible.
Bottom line, no regrets in buying the Titan.

Re: Help Me Decide On A Sprayer?

Hey people,

Thanx for your opinions, very helpful indeed

I steering towards the 390 or the STX but im still open for comments.
I also need to look into parts, if their easy to find and cheap Graco just seems to be on top of it all

Kelly thanx, I may ask some questions later on... um ok What would be your next buy if you were looking? You didnt give any bad reports like almost everyone else did...did you see the STX?

If I go too small for my first and i outgrow it, than I can upgrade like justabout everyone does huh

Thanx again,

Robert

Thanx,
Robert

Re: Help Me Decide On A Sprayer?

Whatever brand you choose, try to get a unit you can grow into, meaning not just what will fill todays needs but what your needs will be over the next few years. You may spend a few more bucks now but will come out ahead in the long run.

I have a Titan 440i and it does real grate, for normal paint, varnishes,,,, but its way to small to run a thick paint like elastomeric, etc.
