HELP! HVLP Problems

I just recently bought a used hvlp turbine and gun combo. I am in need of some advice on dialing it in. Right now it seems that the paint wants to come out in large drops rather than a mist, not good! Any advice on this situation folks?
Thanks in advance.

Re: HELP! HVLP Problems

Since it is used, first thing to check is that the check valve is working properly. This is the valve on the plastic tubing that connects the cup to the gun. It allows air to travel only one way and should be oriented so the air can travel from the gun, through the valve, and into the cup.

Next, take apart the tip and remove the cup from the gun altogether to make sure there is no blockage in the passage ways.

Also make sure the material is thinned enough, otherwise a turbine will not be able to atomize it properly.

Used? Did you check it out before you bought it?

sounds like the wrong dia fluid cap or air cap or both. check with the manufacture, they will provide you with the right size caps for the type of paint or varish you are using.

Re: HELP! HVLP Problems

I always adjust my matierial to zero, then increase my air "full", then increase my matierial a little at a time until I have my matierial where I need it. Once matierial volume suits me I will adjust my air down. Also I've found that if I cut the matierial by at least 10% for oil it cuts back on splatter. First though check all your air ports and make sure nothing is glogged.

Latex or oil? Mine shoots oil like a dream but gets pretty finicky with latex.

What Don said, sounds like you aren't getting the right amount of air pressure.

Lagrge drops = not having the air on the gun turnrd up high enough.Or not having the air at the pot high enough, or both.Cut the air on the pot, and turpinr up, the dialed down the matierial screw on the gon and redirect from there.
