Two models I was looking at was the Graco Ultra 395 and the Titan 440ix.. What is the benefits of one versus the other? Bad aspects, good, I would like to hear it all

Titan 440ix, just because. It kicks out about the same as a graco 650 with a better motor.

I own a Graco Ultra 395 for 2 years and I repair a old Titan 440 (if I'm not mistaken was purchased on the 94) and used for a 20,000 s/f job and works excellent. (of course I repaired it ) The 395 has 2 models low and high boy I prefer high boy. And to tell you the true both work excellent.

I'd have to say go with the Titan, good luck finding a 440ix though. I was looking for one a last spring and apparently they were having a supply problem, so I got the 440i and it hasn't let me down yet. Hopefully Titan has their supply problem squared away by now.

I would first make sure to get a sprayer from a company that your surrounding shops are familiar with. For instance, where I live there aren't a whole lot of Spraytechs sold. Titan and Graco though are very prominent. Easily accessible parts is a must. Your pump could be down for a few days waiting on a packing kit to arrive if your store doesn't have it stocked.
We use a Spraytech 2105 to prime (laquer) all of our trim. I also have a Titan 440i to finish (latex) the trim. I've also got a Titan 640i, a Titan 740ix and a Graco Ultra Max II 695 which we use for our exteriors or larger interior ceilings.
The Spraytech I have had for many many years and this pump I doubt I will ever get rid of. It looks like a total piece of crap now, but it has held up fantastic over the years. We used to use many other Spraytech models and I have been more than satisfied with them all.
The Titan 440i still looks nice and runs ok, but I am always wondering when it will break down next. I have had more trouble with this little pump than any of the others that I have.
The Titan 640i totally died out 1 month after my warranty was up. I was so upset with the Titan Rep as well as the store I purchased it from. Of course I don't hold the store responsible, but 1 month. Come on... I ended up just using it for parts and eventually selling it for $100.
The 740ix I've had a much better experience with. It's only really crapped out on me once (besides the usual packing changes) and that was due to a worn out ball seat valve which took a little while for me to figure out. Once replaced though it's ran great.
The Graco Ultra Max II 695 is by far the best pump I've got, although I'm still partial to Spraytech. It's a fairly new pump and has all kinds of new gadgets and diplays which might all break down on me someday. But it sure looks cool now. Runs great too. Very quiet and smooth sounding.
Both of my bigger pumps are Hi-Boys and each have 150ft of hose attached. The smaller 2 pumps have 50ft of hose each. I make sure my guys take very good care of the pumps and throat seal is applied regularly. If the pumps are not going to be used for a few days, Pump Armor or something similar will be ran through the pump.
I work on all my pumps myself as well as all guns and I would have to say that the Titans are the easiest for me to work on. But that might be due to the fact that they've broken down the most. The Graco I pretty much know nothing about, but I don't think there will be any problems when it's time to change some packings or something. I plan on purchasing a Graco 395 or 495 within the next couple of months. I do like the look of the new Spraytechs and am curious on how the newer models run but I am very impressed with Graco.

If i was choosing between a 395 or a 440ix i would go with the graco because i have had less problems out of them over the years.
I started out with a 190es bought used, used it for a year or so and switched to a spraytech 2205, total work horse that one was.
Moved to a graco 495, another great spray rig.
I also used a titan 660xc during those times. The 660xc was a great ceiling spray set up but for some reason it would keep blowing fuses, once we figured out what was wrong with it it was a easy fix, it would blow a fuse once a month or so equalivilent to 3 or 4 houses.
I then started buying and selling spray rigs, got burned out on that after awhile.
Bought myself a ultramax 695 and used that a lot, my favorite all around spray rig. So now i got the 695 still a 390 i like to use for trim sometimes and a ultramax2 695 that is a great rig.

I've only had Graco experience and I'd highly recommend them. I have found them to be very reliable. I currently own an Ultra Nova 395 which I just puchased 2 or 3 weeks ago off eBay. The fellow I purch'd from said they used it "..maybe four times..". He was not a painting contractor but had a pallet business of some kind. Said his guys used it four times but didn't like it because they "...wasted too much paint..." because the pattern was too wide for what they were spraying!!!
His loss my gain, it really does appear that it has had very little use. He shipped it in the original packinage and oh yeah, I got it for $425! I'll try to post a picture of it a little later. .
ARGH! I'm trying to resize a couple pic with NO luck. I'll get it figured out tomorrow, I'm tired!

if i could only buy 1 pump, i would buy a 395.
i know a guy that repairs pumps for a living and he makes a good living fixing Titan products.
it is like comparing a Chevy Colorado to a Toyoa Tacoma.
The 395 is the Tacoma.
I own both pumps and I hate my 440.

I own Gracos, Titans, and Airlesscos. Out of all of them I like the Airlesscos best. Never a problem.
