Graco 395 Airless/air Assist

Im am considering buying a graco 395 airless/air assist sprayer, primary use to spray interior trim and doors....Wondering how this unit compares to a hvlp cap sprayer...has any one ever used this rig and if so do you like it?

how about for smaller job cabinets, etc. I understand that you don't need to thin your material to death like with a hvlp system and what is the minimum amount of paint to fill the system. Can i put the suction in a gallon can?

Re: Graco 395 Airless/air Assist

These A A A systems seem to be a great thing even though i have not tried one yet i know i will own one very soon so i have done some little research on the systems and the wagner and graco are only two of many other systems available.many are pnuematicaly opperated and one has a cool feature that the tip is reversible like airless tip so one side you have a wide fan for large areas the other side of tip small fan for trim baseboard etc .if you have a airless pump and air compressor you have 75 % of the system allready required all you need is the gun which are very expensive new.i have seen some go for as little 100 bucks get the gun get the gun shoot shoot.tada instant air assist airless system enjoy.

Re: Graco 395 Airless/air Assist

I went ahead and bought the machine last week but have not used it yet...bought it from my paint store S/W for 1800.00. Plus 300.00 in free graco bucks which i used to buy a new gun,10 in extension, whip hose,3 tips and cleaning system....I was looking for a hvlp sprayer but for roughly 800.00 more i got the 395 airless/air assist sprayer, after i use it i will post my results.

Re: Graco 395 Airless/air Assist

Paint,

I can't wait to hear your review!

I use a Capspray for doors and trim.
The crews don't like it... too slow.

They just use a 311 for lacquer and 411 for top coat and get 'em dun

I used an air assist 395 at a local demo... it WAS nice.
but I'm a tool nut.

It's a quality new gadget you may impress clients with and they can be proud to have a professional on the cutting edge.

So, you will enjoy happy clients and bring home a bundle of loot.
It's all good.

Re: Graco 395 Airless/air Assist

We purchased a Graco 4900 ProCart HVLP system for a large exterior epoxy/high solids polyurethane project but it would't adequately atomize the polyurethane. We then used our standard 395 with a Graco Contractor II gun and RAC X 210 fine finish tip and achieved reasonable results. After a demo by Graco, we bought two ProFinish 395 air assisted airless systems. So far the air assisted system is doing a good job. Overspray is minimal and the finish is quite nice. We'll keep you advised as the job progresses.

Re: Graco 395 Airless/air Assist

Unless it will double my output I dont think spending double on a 395 would be all that smart of thing for me to do. I watched a Graco rep demo one and it sprayed real nice, but so does my Spraytech 2155 when it is dialed in right. I am not real concerned with the ammount of overspray because even with the AAA I would still mask everything the way i do now and I am not too concerned about losing product because if I bid the job right the product is paid for with even a little profit for me on markup. Maybe I am turing into one of the old men I used to despise when I started painting, the ones who said real painters used 5 inch brushes and Whiz rollers were for amatuers, maybe now I am the one stuck on the old ways.
Right now I have a Graco 1595, 395, and even a little Graco Magnum I got at Home Depot for $300, ( I use it to spray materials I am not sure about running through a good sprayer), and I also have the Spraytech 2155. I wouldnt want my guys to use it because I would be afraid they might tear it up, and I wouldnt want to use it because it is so expensive and I wouldnt want to break it, it would set there in my shop collecting dust and laughing at me.

Re: Graco 395 Airless/air Assist

I bought one in May and it has paid for itself 2x over. If you talk to your SW rep you can ask about the Graco "Bucks", you can get the hopper for nothing. Instead of screwing around with the syphon you just pour the material into the hopper and it works great. I love it.

I don't recommend shooting primers with it unless you switch out the AA gun for a regular gun(hose too).

Re: Graco 395 Airless/air Assist

I love my 395- bought one last year for a large cabinet job (crew of three over 4 months to do!). We used it for spraying white shellac, lacquer primers, cover stain, and BM ironclad straight out of the can- no thinning. First three coats sprayed- last one hand brushed.

We were working with bare poplar, white finish coats-so it needed to cover well. HVLP's would NOT have worked in this case. You use more product, but with a 411 or 311 tip it lays down beautifully with the 395. I use my HVLP only for clear finishes on fauxed or stained cabinetry.

The plus side is the 395 is light, easy to transport-makes a GREAT finish machine. You'll be glad you bought it!

We bought our Graco 395 last year. We use the Rac X switch tips and I love it.

Question

Re: Graco 395 Airless/air Assist

I am a small painting contractor and now and then i need to spray doors and trim and get a fine finish using Sherwin Williams water born alkyd latex. the last job i did i was not happy with finish so am looking at getting either a titan 6 stage hvlp or a air assisted airless what one do you think would be most cost effective?
