Graco 190 Es??

does anyone have the graco 190es?? what's your experience with it and how long have you owned it?? i just bought one about a month ago and had great results. ceilings and trim are nothing compared to brushing and rolling. i'll probably use it on average about 3 jobs a month. any advice or stories about experiences with this machine??

Re: Graco 190 Es??

It is a decent sprayrig, its will handle being used a few times a month, Really for just a couple of hundred bucks or so you could of gotten like a 440i.

Re: Graco 190 Es??

keep it stored with windseild waher fluid or rv anti frezze whenever your not using it(make sure its CLEAN before hand), and beat it like it stole somethin! from what i hear the titan440 is a better machine, but for what you do the 190 is prolly plenty enough!

The big difference is the gpm's the 440i is .47 and the 190 is somewhere between .33-.37 or something like that. When they are rating a sprayrig they break it down in use per year, month, and the big units are daily.

I was given a 190 ES. I can't get it to prime. I move the knob to prime, no luck. I don't have a manuel. Any advice

Re: Graco 190 Es??

Plumber Steve,

The first thing to check is the lower ball. Put the inlet tube in a bucket of water, turn the machine on and turn it to prime. Now for the Brutal part. Take a hammer or a wrench and give it a good tap on the bottom of the fluid pump just above where the hose attaches. There is a intake ball inside the housing that is the first thing to check. If that does not do it, then the ball inside the piston is probably Stuck. If that is the case, turn the machine off and unplug it. Then, you take the lower housing off ( where the intake hose attaches) clean and check that ball and seat. After that, look up inside the pump and you will see the bottom of the piston. Get a paper clip or something along those lines and stick in the hole in the bottom of the piston. You will probably have to give it a good jab to knock that ball loose if it is stuck.

Hopefully that will fix the problem.

Re: Graco 190 Es??

Problem with the small 190 is no one wants or can repair them. They are meant to be "throw away" sprayers. The guy that repairs our sprayers will not take those sprayers in his shop. 440 would have been better $ spent

Re: Graco 190 Es??

I've never heard of anyone having any problems having them repaired. The parts are available and most repair centers will have them in stock or at worst be able to order them for you. Once you get into the XR series, those are an all or nothing repair.

Re: Graco 190 Es??

190Es are OK to work on. I have fixed several magnums, but have recently decided not to fix them anymore, they are a pain to work on, very cheaply made and engineered, magnum are not even close to a 440i or a 390. I highly agree with the post earlier. Spend a couple hundred bucks more and get a 440i, you can get one between 699-799 at different times of the year.

I had a 195 HD unit and killed it within 3 years.
I used it for everything all of the time and treated it like poop yet it always worked.
Well until my buddy used it to spray Drylock...oops.

1000 gallons is about the lifespan on the unit.

For the money though I would go with the Graco 395 or Titan 440i.

Re: Graco 190 Es??

a 190 is way to small for me to do ceilings with, it might be ok for trim and maybe some exterior stuff but on ceilings it would be way too slow and probably line.

You can easily shoot with a 515 tip.

What more do you want?!?

Re: Graco 190 Es??

hey remodeling joe,
I have both a 440i and graco 190es....
I originally bought the 190 for spraying the entire house and backroll, but now i use it just for interior trim. Dial down the pressure and use a fine finish tip 208 and the trim comes out great.

a 521, if I am spraying a ceiling then I want to put some paint on it. If I am going to use a smaller tip and take longer then I might as well roll the thing. I have a whole box of 515's most sprayers and guns seem to come with them, I never use them. They are too big for trim and aluminum siding IMO and too small for ceilings. Maybe if I was doing a ceiling with an alykd enamel or something like that I would consider using one, but not for just flat latex. Good quality flat latex is pretty forgiving and if I dont have to spray it slow then I wont. This is just how I do things, I am not trying to say my way is the best or anything, I am sure there are a million ways to do things and make them come out looking great.

I can only imagine the over spray from a 521 tip.

yikes.

True, I was thinking of all the wasted materials also though.
Especially if it is a better than average product.

Re: Graco 190 Es??

I have had a es190 for over 9 yrs and can say the other posts
under rate this machine, i have sprayed 2200 sq ft warehouse bays
including ceilings using .021 tips in 1/6th the time it takes to roll.
Other than the piston sticking, releived usally by taping with a hammer,
I have had great service from this machine...

iirc almost all those sprayers use a diaphragm pump which is about bulletproof.

the cylnder is milled versus pot cast like lower level pumps. yes, it is an entry level pro sprayer but it is quite capable unless you're spraying something with substantial body or using several lengths of hose.

as far as someone who refuses to work on them? screw 'em, if they're not smart enough to take money for an easy rebuild its their problem. They're fairly simple to repair and IIRC Graco still sells kits.
