Getting super straight lines.

Okay I do the tape with the caulking trick to get a cleans lines.

But the problem I'm facing is getting the tape really straight. Let me explain.....

I have a wall that instead of being at a 90 degree angel, is at about a 45 degree angel. about 8 feet high. So I'm taping, and eyeballing it, relifting the tape, and placing it to where it looks straight. I even got those laser beams that show you if it is straight, and it looked pretty good.

Well After I painting and lifted, the line is really clean, but where I relifted the tape there is like a bit of a curve to the paint line.

Any suggestions on getting a straight line? I can't really put the tape down and pull it tight along 8 feet of wall can I?

I'd recommend dispensing with the tape
The walls are rarely actually laser straight and square to the ceilings and each other
I feel part of the painter's job is to split the difference and make it look like it is
Often that means not painting laser straight

I agree with slickshift. If you insist on using tape in an angle like that, you might just have to keep trying until you're happy with the line.

Yup, I'd leave that one to hand/eye coordination only. As for your problem with the taping, be careful pulling on the tape and it's edges. You are most likely stretching the tape too much which will deform its edge and your lines.

I think:
You tape, caulk and wipe the critical side of the tape,
so paint doesn't bleed through as it is sealed.
I never tried it, I don't know if it works.
You could also seal the tape with clear mat acrylic varnish,
or some of the colour you are protecting, if you have it.

I've used the tape/caulk trick many times.keeps the paint from bleeding under the tape resulting in a super clean line. wont help you with keeping the line straight though.
