Getting A Cheery Wood Finish
I am remodeling my basement and I am adding a counter. I have cheery office furniture. I want to buy floor cabinets that are oak and try to get a cherry look on the finish can anyone tell me what will work to give this a cheery look without paying for cherry wood. Maybe a list of what I would need to give me the look I need what stain to buy. Or should I get white and try painting them??? HELP

Re: Getting A Cheery Wood Finish
Around here there is not that much difference in price between oak and cherry...and oak will never look like cherry no matter what stain you put on it
It's the nature of wood and stains Can you price out some cabinets elsewhere to get cherry? Either that or paint the cabs

It's never going to look like cherry wood because of the huge differences in the grain patterns between oak and cherry. The grain patterns in oak is what makes people look at it and recognize it as oak. You can easily get a cherry color with just about any cherry stain. I use the Antique Cherry wipe on stain made by General Finish that is sold at Rockler stores. If you can find Alder cabinets you can mimic cherry very easily with them. Alder's nick name is "poor man's cherry". By the way the real color of cherry wood is natural, it is an aging process that together with sunlight darkens natural unstained cherry over years and years that gives it that cherry color we all love, it actually requires no staining. |
