Garage And Drive Paint.

I need some help with repainting my garage and drive. I am in the Florida panhandle so I don't have to deal with really cold weather but it dose get hot and humid. My drive was painted about 10 years ago when the house was built and has held up well. There is no blistering but there are a couple of areas the have lifted or just worn off. The builder is no longer in business so I can't find out what was used initially. I called the paint store here, Sherwin Williams, and they suggested an epoxy but it is almost 50 cents a square foot. I have about 3000 sqft to do. I will be pressure washing before re-coating but with the paint being so expensive I want to make sure that I only do it once. Dose any one have any suggestions about a source for the paint that may be more economical. Thanks.

Re: Garage And Drive Paint.

chemical strip the whole thing, then stain the driveway

-i'm imagining it is concrete

*as soon as someone paints a surface of any kind, it immediately becomes a maintenance issue.

from a home owners perspective, putting a decorative coating of any kind on a garage or basement floor...or driveway is just a bad idea as far as i am concerned. if i have to do a floor, i never warranty or guarantee it. it is at their own risk.

safest bet....strip it completely bare, pressure wash the crap out of it, then apply the best concrete stain you can afford.

Thanks for the reply. I think I might be in over head on this one. The drive will stay as is until the economy picks up and I have some extra cash to hire someone that knows what their doing.

I gave up floors awhile back because of the stress.
That last floor I did was a nightmare.

No more floors.

if you're handy at all, you can probably make a legit run at it.

the forum can help walk you through it.

And if the economy REALLY picks up, let ME know. I'll make that garage and driveway look like a million bucks No BS.

Re: Garage And Drive Paint.

It is simple enough to do. I can walk you through it. Will you be satisfied with lighter colors and semi-gloss finish (easiest and cheapest) or do you want flashy and shiny ( 1 more step and then approaching 40 to 50 cents per foot ) or decorative ( not any more money but more work).

I don't know which epoxy they quoted you but had to be at retail you can do better by asking. Let me know if you want to tackle it.
