When I was working for Lord Hansen, a known corporate raider he acquired Glidden paint (mid 80's). He would take the profitable portion of a company, incorporate it into his own or sell it off. He would then spin off the main company, who's only tangible asset left was it's name. In this case Glidden. He turned a good paint to crap.
