First Time Acid Stain
I am currently building my own house. I've decided to acid stain the floors in my basement. I chose kemiko stain. Up until the time of the clear my floors were looking awesome. They advice to spray the clear sealer with a airless. I did this. The floor looks awesome. However, you can see my passes from the spray.(lines) I went pretty fast and didn't get it on super heavy. I am going to clear again tonight. Then you are supposed to put on a wipe on wax. My question is how to get rid of the sprayer pass lines. Maybe put it on heavier? Maybe the wax will take them out? ANyone have any experience with kemiko stains?

Re: First Time Acid Stain
Not having any experience with the product or the application procedure i would say an even heavy coat might remedy this.
That being said how about some pics.

Re: First Time Acid Stain
No pics yet. Sorry.
I put some of the wax on the areas with lines. Seems to take most of it out. However, there are other areas where I built it up too high and it is milky colored and rough like sandpaper. Couldn't I just wet sand these areas and re-coat. Some one told me to rub with laquer thinner and recoat clear. Kemiko's clear isn't like a clear urethane. It is a real milky water based sealer. |

Re: First Time Acid Stain
Re-seal and then use a buffer, before you apply any more wax...it will work wonders.

Re: First Time Acid Stain
can I use the buffer over the areas that I already waxed? Does it have to be a commercial floor buffer or can I use a buffer for a car? Do i need to buff on the wax or just buff? It really doesn't seem like the wax they have buffs out. I've been applying a thin film over it and letting it dry. Looks glossy when i do this. I still have some rough areas. Feels like it raised some sort of fiber out of the concrete. I really have no experience with concrete so any help is appreciated. thanks.

Re: First Time Acid Stain
OK, the sealer is milky because it went on to heavy, multiple thin coats are the way to achieve a good finish with some epoxy sealers that i have used, also i prefer the control with a lambswool pad, you can feel the finish going on. unless you are an expert with a sprayer,. remove the wax, and if you want to get rid of the milky finish strip the sealer and start again. its the only way to get rid of what you are describing...

Re: First Time Acid Stain
Gene is more on target with the advice. I have only had this problem once, and I used a buffer with a coarse pad to take it down, then roll on the sealer.

Re: First Time Acid Stain
finally got some pics. It actually looks pretty good in the pics. I've decided to sand out the rough areas. I think when i did my final coat i put it on too heavy and didn't have the floor clean. THe dirt/dust settled in the clear. I've sanded some areas down and wiped on some clear and they look nice. We'll see. Glad it was my own home to practive on!

Re: First Time Acid Stain
PS THats dirt all over the floor. This is new construction. You really can't see the areas that I am having a hard time with. When its waxed it looks nice from a distance. I'll post more when i get it finished.

Re: First Time Acid Stain
You can see the lines I have in the finish if you look next to the plastic. Once the blinds are up it probably won't be noticeable. I also wish I had done a darker color. Oh well. THats how we learn right?!
