Fireplace Mantle Priceing
Hello Everyone,
I know you guys always say that only I can determine what I need to charge. I was hoping you could still give me an idea on what you would charge to do the following things. This is new construction.
Two Fireplace Mantles One Oak, One Pine- They're set in on the finished fireplace, so I'll be doing all the work in place. They're approx. 5 feet in length and 6 inches high and 6 inches deep. I'll be taking these from stain-finish coat of poly.
Next I have a patio door, (FRENCH DOORS) with a window on each side of the door surrounded by wood. I know this isnt the best describtion but its most likely what your thinking of. I will also be taking these from Stain-finish coat of poly. These will also have to be done in place.
Last question I promise, GC got a deal on some really nice Pella windows, problem is some are factory painted/powder coated some are unfinished wood. He wants me paint the ones that arent factory painted. They're crank windows, 2 windows in each casement with a coloum of wood separting them. The standard deal you've seen a million times. Approx 5x5 in size. Work will be done with window installed. What would you charge for this?
All materials will be paid for by GC. I'm bidding labor only
If you could help me with some suggestions on priceing it would be a huge help. Even if you only have an idea for one item please let me know. Thanks much!

DW,
What do you feel your time worth is per hour? Only you know this. If you feel you're worth 10.00 per hr charge it. If you're time is worth 50.00 per hr. charge it. How can you ask this question of anyone when you don't say what part of the country that you're from. Do you have all insurances needed or doing it on the side without all the expenses of being in a established business. Is it one window or fifty, you don't say.

Mantles can be anywhere $$ wise. I have installed a HUGE chunk of lumber that was free standing, some that involved very complex custom mouldings and others that were relatively simple. T&M means nothing on these jobs, it's all customer perception (what they willing to pay). You have to walk them through it.

Thanks for the replys,
qoute" I know you guys always say that only I can determine what I need to charge. I was hoping you could still give me an idea on what you would charge to do the following things. This is new construction."
JMIC Did you read my first paragraph. I'm asking what you would charge. I stated that I know you are going to tell me exactly what you just told me, and am wondering what you would charge.
I live in the Midwest by the way in a large metropolitan area.
Not trying to be rude but you should read the question before answering.

DW,
I did read your post, all I'm saying is that for you to Know what myself living in Ct. or someone from from Cal. or Fl. would charge doesn't make a difference. What you need to know is what would someone from your area would charge for doing similar work. My only point that I was trying to get across was for you to charge what you feel you are worth. Really what you posted was imo just to vague to even guesstamate even a ballpark as to time it would take without seeing all the details envolved. Sorry .

OK, let's take the mantles from the top. Choice of basic woods makes no difference, exotics can add up (Pine, oak, who cares? Small change.).
A CONTEMPORARY mantle might be a simple slab extending from the wall without any visable support OR one with a variety of supports.
COLONIAL is usually supported, as most of the others are, with simple details.
GREEK, IONIC, ROMAN and some others include medium level details such as dentil mouldings, etc. You can choose to go 'off the rack' or custom.
GOTHIC, ROCCOCO, MEDITERRANEAN and others can put you off of the charts as it is all custom and often hand carved.
Maybe it is you who should review your question.

Staining new wood: Stain...let dry/ sanding sealer....dry 24 hours/ sand, apply finish...let dry 24 hours/ apply final coat finish.
Just for the doors and mantle, and ofcourse this is just me, and not haveing anything on the job except these items= driveing time. I would figure $40.00 x 25 hours incld driveing time within a 20 mile radius $1000.00-1200.00 ballpark.
