Fire Retardant Paints.

I have a customer looking for a white waterborne paint that is fire retardant. I can find additives without a problem, but I'd like to try and find an actual paint for him since that is what he wants. If anyone knows of a particular brand that I could get a hold of I'd appreciate the info. Thanks.

SW distributes products from Flame Control products. There is a wall paint that comes flat and semigloss that is an intumescent coating. When exposed to eat it will foam up to prevent flame spread.

Re: Fire Retardant Paints.

Unfortunately I don't have access to SW since I'm a paint store. I do sell P&L as my main line but I can't bring myself to recommend Enducrylic to him. We no longer carry it as for one its a crappy DTM and secondly it has such a horrible odor that it made several previous customers sick. I can get the additives for any paint I carry and they are suppose to give it a class A rating so that's probably the best I can do for him. I don't know what he has against an additive versus a premixed paint. It's probably all the same for the most part.

Sw doesnt own Flame Control Coatings, you may be able to order the product regardless. Dont know a phone number but they are based out of niagara falls, ny. Hope this helps a little.

It's not the same. It's not even close. A good intumescent paint will have a blend of different flame retardants dispersed into it. Also, the ratio of different flame retardants have to be just right. Next, most importantly, the polymer should also be grafted to be resistant to flame as well.

What good is a flame retardant coating if it delaminates when the temperature reaches 200 f?
