filler for cedar siding

I am putting up some bevel cedar siding on a small outbuilding for a customer right know. The cedar siding has knot holes in it as large as 1/2" with various small to large cracks here and there. I have consultated some locally about this and they recommended an exterior colored wood filler for the job. They all seem to be latex based. I don't really see a wood filler like this lasting too long exposed to the exterior elements without a solid pigmented paint on it. I could be wrong though. I was thinking about using a colored epoxy (might yellow some when exposed to UV I beleive) filler instead. I think Mohawk makes some. What do you all think. Thanks

Exterior "Ready Patch" (black & orange can) with a little stain and/or clear coat. Great stuff I have used this for years on cedar.
