Fair labor bid for exterior
Living in the suburbs near Chicago, what is a general fair bid for painting the exterior of a home that would take about 12-13 gallons for the body of the house (dry-vit), couple of gallons of stain for the soffitt, couple of gallons of paint for the gutters and downspouts and about 3 gallons for the trim. THANKS for your help!

You know how much paint it will take down to the gallon but not how long it will take to apply it?
No offense, but that's sort of odd
Are you looking to get help in pricing a job, or seeing if a quote you got was out of line?
Either way, with your Faux Biz you should have an idea of how much you need to charge for an hour to make what you need to to keep and grow your business
Exteriors are the same way, your numbers will be about the same whether you are Fauxing or painting exterior trim
Other companies will have different numbers
There is no such thing as a "going rate"
A "fair rate" would be enough to cover expenses, overhead, materials, labor
Plus a little profit
What's fair for you might be Highway Robbery or Raman Noodle time for me

No offense taken slickshift . . . I just need to get a better handle on pricing an exterior. I did get a quote that seemed too low and that made me a tad nervous. I am calling another sub and just would like to know if my thoughts are in the ballpark or if I am way off base.
We have not done exteriors in quite a few years so I feel like I am again, starting from scratch. And as far as faux finishing, we charge per square foot of wall space and consider the amount of times we touch the surface and the skill involved in creating the finish. Finishes can range from $5.00 per square foot to over $15.00 or $20.00 and well over that when your talking about marbles and things of that sort. So its quite a bit different from exteriors, therefore I was looking for some help. Thanks for responding.

Ah...I see
I agree exterior re-paints wouldn't be best priced by sq. ft.
The 'fair price' for a sub though ('wholesale' as opposed to 'retail')...you'll want to make that clear
My price for an H/O where I had to advertise it, take the call, estimate it, sell it, sell the colors, sign it, warranty it, etc...etc...is pretty different from my price for a PaintCo and for skipping all that and just showing up and just getting 'er done
I'd be wary of the low price also
I've had to fix jobs where they were sold for $5600, I would have had to charge $3800, and the sub actually got $1600
Basically, the H/O got a $1600 paint job for $5600 (it was pretty horrifying)
Funny though... the PaintCo had to pay me and a helper for a few days to fix it, so he still got the job done for less than the $3800 I would have charged to do it right
H/O hates his azz though....

Sounds like a 100 hour or so job. I'd say you were in the $6,000 range. Of course prep, height, bushes in the way, number of windows etc come into play.
