Absolutely
I don't clean brushes w/o one

I have two, one's been stretched for wide handle (deck) brushes
The other is for the rest

You can also slip roller sleeves over it and spin them

Either can be spun in a 5 gallon pail

How long does it take you to clean out a brush with this? How many times do you have to chage the water?

I always wash my stuff, including brushes, in cold water so I can take a shower with the hot.

I also use a giant wire brush and a brush comb
How long and how much water depends on what the paintbrush did that day
Sometimes the brush has been sitting in just water in a used pot liner( splash of water in the leftover paint), sometimes in rinse water in a pot liner (fresh water after being rinsed out a little)
Rarely can I clean it right away, as I usually don't clean them at a customer's home
But that happens too

With a sink with good running water, I'd say 7 minutes
The spinner really helps
The giant wire brush has really chopped down the time

I'll time it tomorrow to see for sure

I don't bother cleaning them at all. I throw them away, after all they only cost me $1.00 each at the flea market

Re: Fact Or Crap: Washing Your Brush In Hot Water

How in the world can any of you keep a brush good for 2 years? Even on drywall they get worn down in couple months to the point that they are not holding enough paint (I use Corona excaliburs and some purdy's for the most part). Do not even try to claim exterior brushes go that long, especially on cedar.

I vote for warm water, spin dry and shape bristles before setting aside to dry.

Re: Fact Or Crap: Washing Your Brush In Hot Water

treat new brushes like crap till they become good brushes. a new brush ill let sit in paint then let them soak in water . then clean with hot water if possible then spin. i keep doing this to a brush til it holds alot of paint and feels like part of my hand. then they get pampered

Re: Fact Or Crap: Washing Your Brush In Hot Water

I'll use warm water if it's available. I like the way it softens the bristles back up a little, and I also find my brushes come out cleaner. No bricks here. Never used a spinner for nothing...just kick em out the old fashioned way. My brushes can last for years and years on end but I give them a good wash in brush cleaner every so often, wire brush all the time (I like the bigger ones that look like a broom head with real long bristles) and I shuck 'em up when I'm done with em.

Hey PWG, you ever think your brush stiffening up in warm water could actually be caused by using alkyd modified latex paints from BM?? I know when using any of their products I have to hit the brush with some brush cleaner or it won't all come out for that very reason....and the alkyd would gum right up in warm water. One of the main reasons I don't like BM paints....

Honestly, I'm not sure. I don't spend much time with their paints if I can help it. I'm positive about the exterior stuff, interior, not so much. However, I do remember that even super spec recommends using spirits after washing with soap and water....so I assumed it's in most all their paints.
