Exhaust Fan?

The contractor I used to work for years ago made his own exhaust fan for using while spraying interiors. I have looked and looked and can't find any place that explains how to build something like this yourself. You placed it oustide the home and plugged it in and there was tubing that ran into the house to help pull paint vapors outside. It honestly might not even be called an exhaust fan, my memory fails me at the moment (it's been a long week) . Also, I'm the type of person that finds it difficult to program the dvr so would something like this be out of my league? Any help is appreciated.

Re: Exhaust Fan?

Like those fans the Firefighters use to pull smoke out of a building?

Re: Exhaust Fan?

lol wow slick...you're fast...read one post then wham..reply. Not sure to be honest, but I wouldn't imagine. I've never seen another painter use one so I wouldn't even begin to know what to call it other than exhaust fan. Basicall it was a big box attached to a dolly with some sort of fan in it. It that the metal round connector thing like you would see on the back of a clothes dryer. Then the tubing was a plastic type tubing. Worked great though! Greatly reduced the vapors and honestly hate spraying now without the darned thing.

Re: Exhaust Fan?

I was in the neighborhood...lol
The tubing is small, like a dryer?
It's not the FF one than

If it was home-made, I'd think you'd have to home-make one

...the FF ones are pretty cool though

Re: Exhaust Fan?

So since I can't find instructions on making one myself, where would I look to go about buying a FF one? Unless of course the are just outrageously expensive.

I don't know
I was just looking for pics of the ones I've seen used and can't find any online anywhere
This was a while ago that I saw them used

This one's $179 bucks

" The Tempest exhaust extension is the ideal solution for reducing the amount of exhaust and CO introduced during PPV operations.

The hose is 2" x 10' and is made of durable polyethylene that can withstand temperatures from -20°C to +375°C. Two hoses can be combined for up to 20' of extension. "

Re: Exhaust Fan?

Hmmm...now that's kinda like what I was thinking. The one I used before didn't have as big of fan...but if it works then I don't really give a darn how big the fan is. Would definately need the longer hose though and the price honestly isn't that bad considering the time and frustration it would take me to get my happy a$$ in the garage to build one. (much less can't find any instructions on how to go about it) lol But that is definately in the ballpark of what I was thinking about.

Re: Exhaust Fan?

Oh
I think that's just for the hose

Oooooops

There's got to be something like that around for cheaper
You don't really need it to withstand 360* heat

Re: Exhaust Fan?

lol...ya that's a little steep for a hose. And if I get it up to 360 degree heat I would hope someone would call the FD cause I had done made a boo-boo! lol

Re: Exhaust Fan?

Get yourself a small attic fan,and some HVAC Flex duct. Build a box for the fan and have a sheet metal guy make an adapter for the hose. Put it all together and bingo. its gotta be cheaper than buyin one. Just be sure to put a screen over the ends of the box to keep out pets and small children.

Was about to say the same thing Looks like a small contractor fan (wallyworld, 28.00) and some 12 inch AC duct will build what you want.

Re: Exhaust Fan?

How about something like this? Its available with 15' and longer hose. It blows, but i think it can be set to pull air out of the house as well.

Look for confined space ventilation fans.

Re: Exhaust Fan?

When I sprayed tanks at the oil refinery in CA, they were called copus fans, made for sucking out toxic/volatile chemicals.

Re: Exhaust Fan?

I just noticed this thread. I have one of those fans permanently mounted on one of my trucks. It's made by Pelsue, and is used for evacuating air from manholes and confined spaces. www.pelsue.com

Re: Exhaust Fan?

Thanks for all the help guys. I wasn't looking to spend that much, which is why I was hoping to make one on my own. I'll check into the attic fan thing more and see what I can come up with. Too bad you guys aren't closer (I'd supply the beer to come help me take a stab at building one lol). I'm just not all that mechanically inclined and hoped it would be a simple process. Of course, this is the same girl that didn't know how to tighten the garage door chain this past weekend when my niece messed it up by "accidentally" locking the garage.
