Equalizer?

I saw something about this in the diy forum too.

Can anyone enlighten me about it? I've never heard of spraying a leveling coating, (like mud?) and painting it. Is there any sanding involved? Does it go on after 2 or 3 coats of mud? Any links?

thanks in advance.

Re: Equalizer?

Same thing I believe. After they have mudded, and are done.....they spray a thick heavy coat of what they call equalizer. Then we prime and paint.

Re: Equalizer?

Do you have any links to it? Or more information about it?

I need to learn more about this "level 5" finish and admit that I don't know everything. Been defensive lately and it shows because no one is answering my posts.

Re: Equalizer?

I saw a 55 gallon drum on that equalizer today on the job. I will snap a pic of it tommorow.....It looked like the same brand name as the premixed mud they use.

As for the level 5 finish.......we have been sayin that the 5 stands for the ammount of coats it's gonna need! But it is suppose to be top notch finishing....slick and as perfect as possible. Not even close on the last job, but this next one they seem to have worked out their problems.

Got it. Its a one step process that eliminates a skim coat and seal coat.

Re: Equalizer?

So, does this stuff level out completley smooth? Like plaster? Does it need sanding or what?

Re: Equalizer?

It just puts a good thick primer coat in my opinion. No sanding.......once they spray the equalizer, we primer, and 1st coat. Then they get one shot to get what they missed with quick mud. Then we prime and color it.....and final coat.

I have heard all good things about this equalizer, but not sure it's not just hype.

Re: Equalizer?

Thanks for taking the time MWJ. I'll have to find out more about it. Never heard of it before. Must be a regional thing.
