E-myth Revisited....wow Am I Overwhelmed!!
just finished e-myth revisited....i thought it was a fabulous book....and i realized that i made sarah the pie shop owner look good...real good....lol....also went to a seminar that spoke about e-myth theories and putting together a successful business and the business owner who ran it said it changed his operation from a 2 person operation to a 100 person operation in about 8 yrs....soo i know i'm definitely in need of implementing e-myth into the business....the process just seems sooo overwhelming/confusing....and i have about a million questions! but for now i'll just keep the questions to a few. 1)how many of you have implemented emyth into your business and how has it effected your business?? 2) would the book emyth contractors give me more examples, as a contractors so I can figure out how to implement it into my business?? 3) the part of the operational manual that indicates how to do everything that is involved in painting a room...so for instance do you have a check list...when painting a wall...spackle wall, sand wall, prime spackled spots, paint wall with a bla bla roller.....??? 4) where did you start this process and does e-myth sell something to walk you thru this process?? they fellow at the seminar said it is like eating an elephant...you have to take one bite at a time...to me right now..i feel like i've got 20 really big elephants to eat!!!

Re: E-myth Revisited....wow Am I Overwhelmed!!
1. Yes, slowly but surely I have been implementing systems into the business. Hardest part about that is getting employees/yourself to religiously follow it, time after time until it becomes second nature.
2. Yeah, get the contractor version. Its only a couple bucks at amazon. Basically the same info, but more examples that may be easier to relate to. 3. Yes, build a system for every task. Every room is done like this: Step 1 *** Step 2 *** etc etc Another great book on this is called System Buster, by Phillip Beyer (also available at amazon). Or, another member here who goes by the name of "Brian" is Brian Phillips, and he has created systems for paint contractors. Check out his website, Out of the Bucket. 4. As I said above, I started with the simpler things, like creating a system for when a customer calls for an estimate. It is a system, but I also see it as a flow chart. Customer calls, says they want an estimate. Do they qualify as a customer? Yes, proceed to asking these specific questions. No, then say no thanks, or refer them to another company. After the estimate, this form is filled out and filed here, every time. And so on, and so on. And yes, Michael Gerber sells some sort of E-myth process, but can't recall what it was. Check out their website. |

Re: E-myth Revisited....wow Am I Overwhelmed!!
I have been using e-myth principles for the last four years. I have a coach who is great and knows my business inside and out. I bounce major decisions off him constantly. I'm a slow learner I guess, the past three years he has told me to get out of the bucket, but being a painter and not a enterpenuer all these years has make it hard. Finally in 2006 in decided to hang up my whites and work on the business. Best decision I have ever made. Especially when I could not answer the following questions 1) Could you go on vacation and not have the business closed down temporially 2) what if I ever got hurt and could not work 3) What was I going to do when I got to old to climb ladders. Right now, my main objective is to keep the funnel full. I'm constantly working on developing system. From incoming calls too job satifaction questionaire. I have developed a job site manuel which foremans have so the can systemacially go through any job from wallpaper removal to outside trim painting. The manuel is how we do it at my company. Worker seem to like it because they know just what to do for any job just follow the steps.
If you don't have a coach I suggest you get one, mine is priceless. Thanks Robert |

When I read the book, it blew me away how many things I already did, wholly or partially But of course, I was amazed at what else I could use them for, and how far I could take it Quote:
It's also shorter Quote:

Re: E-myth Revisited....wow Am I Overwhelmed!!
One thing I'll add is to critique your systems.
Once you have written them down go over them. Ask yourself if there is a better, faster, or safer way to do this, for each step. A silly example might be;
The easiest way to critique your systems is to find your inner three-year-old and ask, "Why? Why am I doing this step? Why am I doing this step this way?" I'll pick on PWG's system. He files a piece of paper for each estimate contact that he has qualified as a 'customer'. Why write it down? Why not do this in the computer, save the paper, file space and time and just type the information instead of hand-write it? Why am I keeping this information anyway? Systems are great for keeping things as simple as they can be, and knowing why you do things the way you do them.

Re: E-myth Revisited....wow Am I Overwhelmed!!
I will call it Bs even if I don't read it, why does everyone have to follow like sheep when someone on this site says, oh I read this killer book on how you can make water into wine, Slick if you don't like my opinions, just ban me from the site, I didn't think you were such a Neocon, but I must have been wrong....

Personally, I found it to be the most practical biz book I've ever read. I agree, lots of sales/biz books regurj the same material over and over, but for me, emyth opened my eyes to new ideas creating an endgame. Can you offer better advice Woz? I'm all ears.....give us your recipe for success. |

Re: E-myth Revisited....wow Am I Overwhelmed!!Quote:
I'm not going to stop you I just don't understand how you can do that Also: That was not the question The poster obviously enjoyed the book There's no reason for your reply in this thread except to antagonize Quote:
It's just that some people obviously have read this one, followed the advise to a certain extent, and it has helped them Quote:
![]() That is definitely not the point of this site You may have it's purpose wrong Woz It is to discuss these things, not to follow like sheep There is no banning for a difference of opinions...lol If you had read the book, and still had that opinion, I wouldn't have said anything In fact, I wish you had read it I would like to hear your legitimate, learned, opinion on it ....I'm not blowing smoke here Quote:
Begged for banning for a silly reason And called me a name (I have no idea what a Neocon is, but I'm assuming it's not a compliment) Woz, I enjoy reading your replies and having you as a part of this site But those are the acts of an "Internet troll" (someone just trying to stir up trouble) This is by no means a warning of any kind (well, I should point out that personal attacks are not allowed-but I don't know what a Neocon is, nor does that bother me, so I won't complain about that) I wouldn't consider, or be part of any effort to have you banned I'm just laying it out there If you want to start another thread saying E-Myth=BS and give your reasons, and have people who think it's BS post up why, please do I'd love to read it But this poster has legit questions about process' in the book, not whether or not it's a good business model

Re: E-myth Revisited....wow Am I Overwhelmed!!
Neocon is a Neoconservative.
Not a fair accusation as book burning is associated with that kind of political thinking. Encouraging reading a book, almost any book is not "neocon".
