Doors Doors Doors
I have about 25 doors that I want to change in my house.
The existing doors are all getting tossed out The new doors will be typical 6 panel doors. They will come primed, and are all going to be painted gloss/semi-gloss white [ladies choice?]. I'm guessing spraying them would fit the bill. My brother [not a contractor or tradesman] had a Big Box Wagner sprayer ~ he was not impressed with it's results on various projects at his own home. He then hand painted everything. The question is: What would be the quickest way for me to paint all these doors and have good results?

Re: Doors Doors Doors
We always spray our doors. If the six panels are smooth texture I would spray for sure. If they have that wood grain look to them then you could have a decent product by using a brush. That would be alot of work though!
We use 2 2x4s. One is placed on the floor. We then stand each door up on top of that 2x4. While leaning each one just a touch we nail(just one nail) the other 2x4 to the top of each door. The top 2x4 leans against the wall to keep all the doors standing.

It seems like a tremendous amount of work to brush! I did a 15 light door - prime and paint - I thought I would never be done with that one.....I have another one to do now too ![]() Quote:

Re: Doors Doors Doors
Use a brush to paint in the panel areas. Use a weenie roller with 1/4"nap for all flat areas. If you have a Vista paint nearby, get a paint called aqua fusion. It dries hard like oil and has a great sheen. Do it in 2 light coats. They will turn out great.
Sorry, just reread that you have 25 of them to paint....sprayer would be the way to go. |

Re: Doors Doors Doors
Renting a sprayer, standing them up in a "V", use a stick nailed on top to hold them. If you have the space!

Re: Doors Doors Doors
Good vid RC.
Space will be at a premium and I can do them in stages/phases....ie, kid's room has 5 doors; MBR has 9; etc.

Re: Doors Doors Doors
I know that you are a lovely
and talented individual. However, I'm also guessing that you don't have unlimited time and space. My guess is that by the time you do 25 doors...you will have almost learned to do a good job of spraying and not making a mess of the entire house. I'd say make it a room at a time operation, and roll and brush. Sherwin Williams ProClassic is very forgiving and dries as hard as alkyd enamel. If you cut in around the panels with a good brush and roll the flats with a good mini foam roller I'll bet youi're happy with the results.... if not the process. ![]() I like the ProClassic for the hardness of the finish, and the "self leveling" quality. Brush strokes and roller bubbles just disappear as it dries. Has pretty good dry time to handle as well.

Re: Doors Doors DoorsQuote:
that would give me the hardness of an alkyd and the ability to handle work pieces in a reasonable time for years. When I found the ProClassic I quit looking. Can't comment on any other brands, I don't want to experiment with my bookcases and cabinets when I've got something that works.

Re: Doors Doors Doors
You could get a HVLP sprayer set up, I think though you would want to do all the doors at once to eliminate a bunch of set-up and clean-up.
After a couple of doors with a brush and a tampon roller (the same one stated before, I just like calling them that) you will have a nice painted door. You could just order pre-finished ones as well, not that much more money and nooooooo painting. |
