Don't ever use Hammerite, AWFUL

We just finished an apartment job that had lots of wrought iron and metal staircases. The manager was intent that I use a product called Hammerite on the metal. I'd never even heard of it before this but I agreed because he was buying the material.

Folks, this stuff sucks, it will not lay down and is the worse product I've ever used. I tried cutting it with thinner and no dice, it just sagged and looked like crap. I tried it straight out of the can, no luck there either. It was miserable not being able to figure out how to work this stuff. It clogged my sprayer up that I eventually got cleaned out. Even used heavy cutters to no success.

Has anyone here ever used this stuff? When it dried up, it was absolutely brick hard, so it does it's job but getting it to look even average, is impossible.

I've used the hammerright out of the can. I didn't think it was supposed to lay flat. It's supposed to have a "hammered" finish. Right?

their website ( http://www.tcpglobal.com/autobodydep...FRgbawodv040Iw ) says it comes in smooth and hammered finish.

Use it for window metal lintels so no rust comes through, works great for that, the one time I tried to paint rails with it, I had to redue them.

It works so well because it has glass in it. Which is also why it's a pain to use. I've only done really small areas with it so no issues for me. I don't think I'd want to use it in larger areas though. I know they stuff is very tacky and I can imagine all sorts of issues with it.

I use the rattle cans quite a bit for touch up stuff. Never had an issue.
