Does Your Quality Stay On An Even Keel If....?

...you are painting a 1 bedroom apartment one day and the next day painting a 2 million dollar home?

I'm so used to my standard way of doing things, that it doesn't matter where I am, my quality is the same no matter the project. I don't "rush through" jobs or "wing it". I'll always have that little voice telling me I should have done it right. Not to count a warranty on my work.

What are your thoughts on this?

Customer gets the quality they pay for
and the agreed specifications.

A rental appartment tennant will not want to pay
for the quality of a multimillion dollar home owner.

I hope you have a different sales pitch and specs for each

No, to be blunt.. as George said, you get what you pay for.. cheap on the coats, thats whatcha get. I remember a famous qoute from years ago... dunno who said it... The quality of a high price lasts much longer than the smile of a cheap price... or something like that.

Along those lines, but different. I saw it on a biz card at a Duron once.
something about sweetness and bitterness in contrast.

I think my point is being missed. All I'm saying is that I can't compromise my quality. I do the same work consistantly. I can't "slop" it on. I can't "blow and go" on account of the job specs. It's built into me to not cut corners and such. That's really all I was saying.

...I'm rarely in apartments, my typical job is a 300k-1mil repaint. I'm curious about you guys, not what I may be doing "wrong" or "different"-that's getting old in here anyway

thanks guys

I hear ya, Rich and I'm the same way. That's why it is important for me to either a) stay out of the field or b) not sell jobs where my attention to detail makes me do extra work.

I also hear you...i also have a hard time compromising my quality....however i am also trying to pay attention to the big picture these days...Painting is a business...as a business you should be making money...less money... less time and therefore lower quality.

Don't get me wrong... if a customer has a house worth 52k and pays for a closet at my rate... it will be done just as well as a greatroom in a multimillion home, I meant sorta what George meant, if your doing something cheap, say... someone only wants one coat instead of two because they WANT you but can't pay... well, can't guarantee the quality will be there.

What you should do is...... J/K

Yes, there is a difference. I'd have to shoot myself if all work was the same. So, I try to get a variety. But going from exterior to interior is even harder than going from apts. to nice homes.

I'm on a budget job right now where I did a couple of significant steps for free. The owner didn't think it was necessary but I just "had" to do it.

Going from apts./new construction to nice homes, it takes me a day to get re-adjusted. Have to think more and take more time.

Going from homes to apts. takes a day to get up to speed again.

There's only so much quality you can lay down. I can make a sow's ear look like a silk purse, but it's still a sow's ear.

I have no problem doing a "good" job for less money or an "excellent" job for more money. I do prefer the latter though.

Like most of ya. We do mostly higher end and thats how we price. If we get lower end work, price is the same as the higher and they get the same quality. Where I differ..is we wont do a one coat. We decided that we dont want our name on it. Our price is consistant as is the quality of work. Its kind of an attitude, but market wise it works for us. We get whole houses (interior) high end paint. And because of consistant quality, the builders, architects, whoever, they just ask for our price, we seldom bid against anyone anymore. They know the work, they pay us.

Most customers want a Cadillac paint job for a Volkswagon price
