Re: Do Customer's Give You Food And Drinks?

The last time I had someone over, it was the cable guy wiring up my cable internet. Since it was around lunchtime, I ordered a pizza and shared it with him. The better you treat the people doing work for you, the better they'll work for you. He did a nice job routing the cable in the basement and I'm pleased with it.

I voted donce in a while, but the more I thnk about it I get offered bottles water and soda a few times a week. Beer about once a month, and I sit down and eat the lunch they bought a few times a year.

Money is a nice tip, but offering up lunch sitting down with them feels good, like they realize how nice of a guy you are, and how hard you work. That earns them a little something extra, like spreading the extra dirt way over yonder in that divit, or pruning that one branch that they complained about.

Oh, and the old lady's that bake fresh cookies and brownies are the best!

All time worst.

Remod on an oceanfront condo for an ancient Norwiegian lady. She can no longer walk and gets around on one of those electric scooters. She also can't leave, so the entire remod take place with here living there.

Very nice lady, always offering us reindeer meat balls, all kinds of pickled/ preserved fish, other animal parts and cheese. Her son would show up for lunch or shortly thereafter, they would then eat, play backgammon and drink. Drink is the key word. They had some Vodka like stuff and the bottle was always frozen in a bucket of ice.

At the end of the day, they were trashed. The place reeked of food (apparently gone bad) but they were still asking us to join in the party.

I'm not booking my vacation to Norway EVER!

That would be Akvavit, or Aquavit. Wicked stuff, I got 2 bottles of it here in the office. Do a couple shots of that, and you'll understand why the vikings raped and pillaged.

Very interesting story about this hootch. I just googled it and it seems this stuff is put aboard a ship in Norway and then heads south of the equator, and back again. Swishing around in the oak barrels makes it taste better (apparently)
The name of the ship and when it sailed can apparently be found on the back of the bottle.

Re: Do Customer's Give You Food And Drinks?

I use to take what ever was offered so I would not hurt feelings. This spring we had a Spanish family cook us "their" food and it made us sick. It smelled really good but every item tasted like ass. The guy stood there watching us, making us comment on how great every item was. This was one of the worst events of my life!

I hear that some Russians like to do a shot or so to "sign a deal". If you do not partake then no deal. I signed a window job at PM fearing doing a shot and having to be at my next stop at 8 for another job signing.
#1, no shot no job
#2, do a shot and the next client smells it ---no job.

I was lucky, they did not partake in the custom!

Yep, cool stuff. This particular bottle has it printed on the inside of the front label. This one sez:

Warrants that this Aquavit
has been carried on board
Wilh Wilhelmsen's

M/V "TEXAS"

Around the world crossing the
"Linie" (Equator) twice.

My Grandfather was an old Swede, and he turned me on to this stuff. Every Christmas, he'd break out a bottle and tilt it while yelling SKOAL!!!
